So Connie and myself caught the train to Quebec City, to be greeted by the worst taxi driver in the world. He clicked open the boot and just sat in the taxi, when we didn't open it he got out and just stood there, not offering to lift our cases in, so we asked him if he would put them in, which he did. Silence in the taxi for the 5 minute ride, he stops outside the hotel and asks for his money, which I give him ....... and take my change, he clicks his boot open. And just sits there ? So we get out of the taxi leave the door open, take out cases out and leave the boot open and walk away .........what a ****** liberty ??????
We were greeted by the loveliest receptionist called Alexander, who was polite, chatty with the added bonus of being very pleasing to the eye ? So harmony was resumed. Our room is massive, 2 huge beds, and all very plush, doubt we will be eating off paper plates here ! .
After a beautifully sleep on a very very comfy mattress, I awoke to be told by Connie that
I had screamed in the night again ? , poor woman, I'm sure she could throttle me, but is just too polite. So we go down for breakfast which is a feast of feasts, with the added bonus not of only real crockery, but such lovely waiters too ?. I had a Quebec breakfast speciality, which is a small pie filled with mince pork, weird but tastes great, it's only the size of a mince pie, so not as gross as it sounds. Obviously I had lots of other stufff, it was an American buffet, so say no more ?
Then we caught th shop on and off bus tour of the city, which was really good, we had the seats at the front of the upper deck so we were like a couple of kids, the city is really pretty. We did the whole curcuit and then stayed inside the old city walls. We wandered around for hours, the streets are cobble stones, and all the shops and cafes are individual styled, very European, very quaint. There were street musicians everywhere, playing guitars, harps, violins as well as singers.
It was hot but not boiling like it
was in Montreal so easier to walk up and down the many hills. I went on the Funicular which is a very steep lift that's powered by water, only takes 60 seconds but the most amazing views, Connie doesn't do heights so I went on my own. Please see the video ?
There were loads of street artists and art galleries, and the culture vulture that I am, I loved going into them, if only I was rich instead of beautiful ??, however I did buy a small print of a place I'd been to in the old town, it shall be hung upon my conservatory wall. We stoped for the obligatory ice cream, that counted as lunch after the big breakfast. I found a lovely pair of sandals in a sale for £6 bargain ..... asked the assistant for the other shoe, and when she brought it to me it was 2 sizes too big, so I gave it back and she came with a new box .....l tried them on, and this time one shoe was 1 size bigger ? no other sandals of any size in the shop !! So someone somewhere with odd sized feet
is very happy ??.
More sight seeing and meandering before going to a cafe recommended to us as the best place to buy Poutine, (chips gravy and cheese) Quebec speciality. It was really good the gravy has lots of herbs and spices so it's not like bisto !!! As I'm on my holidays I ordered a cocktail, that has whisky in it, so it was lovely but waaaaayyyyy to strong for little tea drinker me, so I added orange juice to it and it was quite yummy ?.
We jumped a taxi home, this time with a great driver who was given a tip !!! We then went into the spa which is decorated with murels on the walls and ceiling of places in Quebec, we had a swim, and jacuzzi, perfect ending to a perfect day ?.
