Another short day turned long by bad biking conditions... There was not much in the way of restaurants near the motel we stayed at last night. Luckily the motel itself had a restaurant where we planned to eat breakfast, and we were told upon checking in that it opened at 7am. So at 7am we were outside the door, wondering why the lights were off. We went back to our room to finish up any last details and get completely ready to go, and then came back at about 7:20. Still nothing, so we rang the night doorbell. Upon answering, a sleepy looking man let us know that on SUNDAYS, breakfast didn't start until 8. Too bad, that's an extra hour of sleep that we could have had. We might have felt bad about waking him ... read more

TRAPPED - (performed by Bruce Springsteen) Well it seems like I'm caught up in your trap again And it seems like I'll be wearin' the same ol' chains Good will conquer evil and the truth will set you free And I know someday I'll find the key Then I know somewhere I will find the key Well it seems like I've been playin' the game way too long And it seems the game I played has made you strong Well when the game is over, I won't walk out the loser And I know that I'll walk out of here again And I know someday I'll walk out of here again But now I'm trapped! Ooh yeah! Trapped! Ooh yeah yeah! Trapped! Ooh yeah! Trapped! Ooh yeahhh! Now it seems like I've been sleepin' in your ... read more

So Wecolme back to our amazing adventure. We left off last time when Rene and I were on our way to the Maritimes. August 28, 2010 we rode from Riviere du Loup on to New Brunswick. Amanda had e-mailed us to tell us to check out a place called Hopewell Rocks. We thought we would probably camp somewhere along the way and make it there the following morning. On our way to Hopewell Rocks we took a little back road that took us along the river. In Hartland New Brunswick we came across the "Longest covered Bridge in the World". The bridge is 1282 feet long. What a cool and unexpected discovery. Well we got going after the bridge and there really wasn't a ton of stuff to see on the way, so we ended up ... read more

All in one day I saw the highest tides in the world, the longest multispan bridge, and drove around the beautiful PEI. The next day saw Anne of Green Gables home recreation(it is after all only a story, but don't tell that to the thousands of Japanese who go), and went to an amazing red sand beach. I spent 2 days in Charlottetown and saw a stage musical of Anne of Green Gables. I think PEI's economy survives on Anne.... read more

After leaving the ferry at North Sydney, we drove down Cape Breton, crossed the causeway, and picked up Highway 104 heading east. At Westville, we turned north and drove to Caribou where we drove aboard the MV Holiday Island. It takes about an hour and a half to make the crossing over to Wood Islands on Prince Edward Island. After leaving the ferry, we drove to Charlottetown. Charlottetown is the largest city on the island and an attractive one at that. With a population of around 60,000, it's the provincial capital of Prince Edward Island. It was named for Queen Charlotte, wife of King George III. The good king gained fame in history as being on the throne when the American colonies revolted. This led to the Revolutionary War and independence for the colonies and eventually ... read more

PEI is a Canadian province consisting of an island of the same name, as well as other islands. The maritime province is the smallest in the nation in both land area and population (excluding the territories). The island has a few other names: "Garden of the Gulf" referring to the pastoral scenery and lush agricultural lands throughout the province; and "Birthplace of Confederation", referring to the Charlottetown Conference in 1864. tt is the 104th largest island in the world, and Canada's 23rd largest island. The island was named for Prince Edward, Duke of Kent and Strathearn (1767-1820), the fourth son of King George III and the father of Queen Victoria.... read more

Hi all! Sorry it's been awhile since last entry. Takes a bit of time which we don"t always have. We have since been to Truro NS, Halifax, Wolfville and last nite was Charlottetown PEI. I should do this more often because it is starting t o become a blur! Thank God for pictures! Halifax was beautiful. We had an awesome seafood dinner at the 5 Fishermen downtown overlooking the Celebration site. This was a huge party. Hank and I went for a long walk down the main drag. Very pretty at nite. We left Halifax the next day. On to Wolfville. Arrived in New Minas where our room was. A far cry from the Delta in Halifax, but people were great and we are having fun regardless. Ian, Paul, Hank and I took a cab into ... read more

Today was the big day, we were finally going to Prince Edward Island and I was so excited. I was also excited about having to pay to take a shower, NOT ! This was going to be a new experience for us but I was anxious to see how it worked. We gathered our bath buckets and quarters and we made our way on over to the bath house. We started investigating the situation and soon figured out that there was a box right outside the shower that you had to put the money into in order to get water. Once you put a quarter into the box, the water would come on and it would last for 5 minutes so every 5 minutes you had to step out and add another quarter. Let me tell ... read more

Charlottetown, capital of Prince Edward Island (PEI) is a charming little city of around 35,000 folks. PEI consists of rolling, seemingly manicured green fields, rich brown red soil and even red beaches. Anna enjoyed visiting Green Gables where Lucy Maud Montgomery drew inspiration for her famous books. In the evening we sat outside in balmy weather at a local pub, and were balladeered by a local guitar player who enjoyed playing my songs as we are of about the same vintage (21+). Kevin is an entertainer by night, remote IBM worker by day (the only one on PEI he told us). We also visited Cows, supposedly the #1 ice cream shop in Canada, if not the world. Alas the jury's out on that.... read more

TRAVELOGUE Sunday, May 17, 2009 Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island Greetings from Prince Edward Island in Canada~ This morning we glided into Charlottetown harbor past the northern tip of Cape Breton Island into the Gulf of the St. Lawrence with Prince Edward Island on one side and Cape Breton on the other. You could not help but notice the ragged, red clay cliffs that dropped to the ocean below, waves crashing against them and gorgeous homes on top of the bluffs. The homes here are not as colorful as we have seen in the past two cities we visited, but they are majestic with their sprawling green lawns and sitting amongst the middle all alone on several acres of land. It was a brisk 57 degrees with cloudy skies with winds blowing about 25 to 30 knots, ... read more
