So today is my last day in Toronto and I'm off or should I say up to the CN Tower. However before I can go I have to leave my suitcase in the coach station in another part of town, so that meant a LOT of lugging round a far too heavy suitcase ? Anyway ........
CN tower facts until 6 yrs ago the highest freestanding structure in the world, so now it's 2nd ..... second shmuckand ?. Its 1,814 tall and only 1.1 inch off being perfectly vertical, it's stuck by lightning about 75 times a year, and is one of the 7 modern wonders of the world.
So up I go in a windowed lift (elevator) it travels at 15 mph and takes 58 seconds to get to the observation level, as told to me the young attendant who goes "up and down like a brides nightie" all day In the lift ...... poor girl . So I step out and look out for over 100 miles of Toronto, and it did make me gasp I can tell ya. The harbour looked amazing, there is a local airport runway in the middle of the river, I did
wonder how many have gone over the edge and gone plop !!!
I walked around the inside, then the outside that felt really weird as it's obviously very windy and cold and you can hear all the traffic noises, if it was misty or low cloud I'd have been in the clouds ..... spooky. Then I walked down 1 level and stepped on the glass floor looking straight down ? AMAZING , the glass can take the weight of 14 ? Rhinos apparently, which did reassure me as I'd just had my dinner. So I danced around a bit as you do, and thought of my fear of heights friends ????
Then it was time to retrace my steps to pick up the fore mentioned suitcase and head off to the train station to start my journey to Port Perry. A 2 hr train and bus journey that takes me to another world ....... green open spaces and the cutest town. I'm staying at a place called The Ranch b&b. It's run by Barbara who is in her 70's, and as I arrive she's cutting her grass on this huge ride on mower, wearing a fluorescent pink shell jacket and huge yello sunglasses ?, She jumps off runs up to me gives me big hug and says "hey Karen welcome" instantly I know we're going to get on.
My room is gorgeous, with an outside veranda complete with hammock, so I'm happy. Barbara is the Canadian version of Mary Richardson, she is horsey (obviously it's a ranch !!!!) she mothers everyone, she has the same sense of humour and opennes, and takes no shit from anyone. The ranch is her home and all her guests have the full use of it, so it really is home from home, all be it a tad smaller for me ...... i don't have 13 acres and 10 horses, a donkey, 1dog and 6cats !!!! . I spend the evening sitting around the dining table chatting to Barbara and her other guests / friends. She is hysterical, and keeps on trying to feed me, so in the end I give in and agree to some fruit, which is presented with the accomplyment of crisps, popcorn ? and pretzels. I'm offered wine too, but you know me ...... ☕️
So tomorrow Barbara has promised me a tour of the ranch and helping groom the horses ?, I can smell that hoof oil now .... it's one of my fav smells ?
Off to bed now xxxxxxxx
