It's 22.53 on the 26th of May. So I think today I'll write about Saturday, Sunday & Monday. Dad, you didn't like the amount of alcohol consumed in the last few blogs - so you may want to look away now. I probably won't get it all done today, but I hopefully I can get it finished and uploaded by tomorrow night. So Saturday. Since we weren't really asleep until about 3.30-4 the night before, we weren't up until 12 noon on Saturday. Eventually we got up, and Emily kindly cooked us pancakes, bacon and eggs - a pretty good way to kick start the morning. We hadn't really got much planned for the day, only that there was to be a barbecue in the evening. It was, however, Matt's birthday - so we all wished ... read more

It's 19.52 on the 25th May. Today I'll write the first 3 days that I have missed, then I'll do the next 3 tomorrow or the next day - I've got a lot to tell. So Wednesday. We got up and begun the day doing some picking of the salad greens that were ready for harvesting. Matt cut Arugula, Rosie and Kate cut Cutting Celery, and I filled 4 crates full of a variety of red and green lettuce. Once we'd harvested enough, one of the larger greenhouses was practically empty as we'd pulled up near all the lettuce growing in it. Therefore, the next job was the hoe the ground in the greenhouse ready for the next crop to be planted. This took us up to lunch, and once we returned we were ready to ... read more

It boggles my mind how quickly people can adjust to their surroundings. We are used to living in a three bedroom, four bathroom home and now we live in two small rooms, a kitchenette, and a very tiny bathroom - and we are surviving! We have gotten into a routine, and that routine includes having a sit-down breakfast every morning. I never used to even eat breakfast, let alone sit downand eat. This morning, Jack proved a theory: if Jack says it is so, it is! Example? While discussing Mommy's blood work, (isn't that what everyone talks about at 6:15 in the morning?), Paul decided to teach the kids how veins and arteries work. Jack interrupted and said, "Um, sorry, Daddy. I don't think that is right." He then went on to explain what was wrong ... read more

The Adventure Begins! We are in our hotel and we are exploring our city. However, that city is Oakville and we are 3 kilometres from our home! A little background - we have rented our house to a lovely gentleman and his children. We originally wanted a closing date of July 1st, but he needed to move in on June 1st. So, we agreed and made arrangements to move into a Holiday Inn for the month of June until we could move up to our cottage for the summer. The month of May has been chaotic - finding insurance for the house and cottage, organizing a going away party for Elizabeth and Jack, donating hundreds of pounds of toys and clothes to nearby charities, clearing out furniture in Elizabeth's room, emptying dressers and closets...the list is ... read more

After a wonderful nine days up north, the Turners have returned to the city. Christmas was a wonderful affair in the city with Grandma and Papa. They spoiled us rotten and I LOVED my compressor. What girl wouldn't? We then packed up to spend the rest of the holidays in the Ontario north. We spent Boxing Day at a beautiful resort called The Rosseau by JW Marriott. It is located (obviously) on Lake Rosseau in Muskoka. We spent time swimming, playing games, and the adults enjoyed a lovely massage in the luxurious spa. Elizabeth loved swimming in the outdoor pool, while Jack and I stayed in the outdoor hot tub. The resort was decorated for Christmas - so pretty. On the 27th, we made the trek, and I do mean trek, into our cottage. The snow ... read more

Hello all! We are so excited - we have a departure date!!! The four Turners will be flying to San Francisco on September 9th, 2014 to begin their trip of a lifetime. Can you believe it? We have booked our cruises, our RV, and our schedule is set until November 13th! Ahhhh. We have a meeting with the principal of the kids' school on Wednesday to discuss the possibility of our kids being "virtual" students. Welcome to the world of blogging, kids! Hope everyone is doing well.... read more

We have spent the day setting up our newly finished basement - it looks so comfortable. We are also working on redoing our living room as all of our old furniture went downstairs. We got a new couch delivered today. Now for chairs, rug, tables, lamps, etc. Funny to think that we are doing this all for the renters of our house. We will only enjoy it for ten months and then be away from it for 14 months! Crazy. On another note, we are getting excited about our time in SW USA. We have five weeks to travel from San Francisco to San Diego. There are so many options - Grand Canyon, Yosemite, Las Vegas...a little overwhelming and it is only one country! If anyone has a list of must-sees, please let me know.... read more

We are one week into the 2013-2014 school year. Elizabeth has just started grade four and Jack is thrilled to FINALLY be in grade one. They both love their teachers and they seem to be really enjoying school. Paul and I have good classes - so far, at least! It is crazy to think that we only have one year left before we start our journey. The pressure is on. We have been planning and saving for this since 2009. A colleague asked us recently how the kids felt about being away for a year, and our response was, "They really don't know any other way of life - we have been talking about this for the majority of their lives!" We have created a "MUST SEE/DO" list - Paul must see Greece, I must "see" ... read more

A small, yet fitting, 1980’s musical reference to begin our final Ontario blog. Well, the last of Ontario time was spent running around getting everything we needed before crossing the pond and saying some goodbyes to family and friends, including a fun night with my brother, sister-in-law, niece and nephew. This meant we had to be well organized as we knew we would be losing the use of me Mum’s car. Needless to say organization and planning have not been our strong suits so far. It turns out it's easy to let time slip by hanging out by the pool and doing some cooking (poof, there goes the day). We did get to say goodbye to my family and have a nice meal with them, as well as a fun dinner out with Jodie & Mike. ... read more

In early July we headed to Oakville, Ontario, to visit with our best friends Sonia & Kevin, and their son Owen. We spent a couple of weeks having fun with them and visiting other friends in and around Toronto. This time really just flew by and we spent many days swimming, finding the good grocery stores, cooking, playing games, shopping for our trip, researching flights abroad, exploring Oakville, etc. A few highlights and observations: We had a fun day in Burlington at the splash pad Lovely dinners with old friends A day can pass really quickly when you're just hanging by the pool at home No one has as many games as the Munns do Shane likes to set up Owie's toys at night so they're all stacked high for him to knock over in the ... read more
