Peering out our cabin window at 6:30 a.m., I saw we were off Cape Spear, Newfoundland, with its flashing lighthouse. It had taken Caribbean Princess two days to sail down from Nanortalik, Greenland, to reach St. Johns's. South Head of The Narrows

South Head of The Narrows and Fort Amherst Lighthouse. Below it are the ruins of Fort Amherst, built in 1772-1777. "On the left the rugged hill attain a height of 600 ft., and from its base juts out a rocky promontory bearing at its base the Fort Amherst Lighthouse".--Baedeker 1907. Fort Amherst Lighthouse

Fort Amherst Lighthouse overlooking The Narrows. The original stone lighthouse was in operation 1852-1951. The present lighthouse was built in 1951. In the background are the old and new Cape Spear Lighthouses. "In 1951, two dwellings and the present twenty-five-foot-foot-tall wooden, pyramidal lighthouse were built on South Head, and the old stone lighthouse and barracks were demolished shortly thereafter". Hi, Dave, Thank you for your comments on my St. John's photos and for adding those two to the Churches thread! I had looked at the Photography Forum before, but noted many of the threads are locked. Birds, Trains, among others, are locked. Is there any way of reviving these?.
