Hello again all!
Well I started a new job the other day. As much as I enjoyed my time at Vancouver Coastal Health, it wasn’t really for me. The work environment was a little different to what I’m used to and ultimately things weren’t busy enough to keep me occupied.
So totally out of the blue I got offered a job at Davis LLP, a national law firm with its head office in Vancouver. Doing legal accounting like I did at Mallesons, my job will be to relieve for staff on leave or otherwise occupied with the roll out of their new accounting system.
My first two weeks will be in conflicts and matter opening - no laughing Rose! Actually you would love their conflict search process, one search and you can pick up all the parties on the file, the conflict report is concise and easy to read and generates its own cover sheet - way better than Mallies!
So far so good - everyone seems nice and the offices are pretty cool (28th floor so some awesome views even from my desk).
This weekend I have been house sitting for Tracey (Nicky’s cousin -
thanks nickers) and her husband Rael in their awesome high rise apartment with some great views of downtown and English Bay. The catch was baby sitting their cat Natalia but I actually kind of enjoyed this and even found myself talking to her … (no sis, that does not mean I will look after Bosco!).
Took the opportunity to have a lazy weekend mostly reading and watching tele (Olympics; some movies and some good fun trash like Gilmore Girls and Degrassi: the New Generation - so cool!) - a nice change seeing as how I’ve not properly sat down and watch the idiot box for months and months. Anyhow, it was a nice break from my basement room without actually having to travel far.
Speaking of travels, in addition to my planned trips to San Francisco in late September and Seattle and Portland in early October, I have also booked my Xmas/NYE trips to Montreal and New York. Just need to book my Toronto and UK trips now.
Last weekend my German travel buddy Marc returned from his travels throughout western Canada. Marc certainly visited some amazing and off the beaten track places. Anyhow, we spent a
fair bit of the weekend together including watching the new animated Star Wars movie (crap!) and a trip to Capilano and the Cleveland Dam (which I had seen before but Marc had not) - sadly the dam was shut but we did manage to see some salmon jump upstream (and I finally managed to get a picture of one jumping!). Oh and we also saw a skunk, not out in the forest but in downtown Vancouver, and no it didn’t smell!
The previous weekend my Manchester travel buddies Sadie and Joe returned from their tours and likewise I spent most of the weekend with them. They also happened to make friends with Eleanor a friend I made from a previous trip (seriously it is mental how many people I keep running into from previous trips in Vancouver). Was really good to catch up with them all again but sad to have to farewell even more friends.
Gig wise things have been pretty quiet but I made it along to a small gig by a jazz fusion band called Nomo. These guys put on an awesomely fun show and for the finale the band (about seven of them) came
into the small crowd and played the last song whilst we sung, clapped and danced around them.
On a much larger scale was a gig by Radiohead at Thunderbird stadium. The full capacity crowd (20,000 plus) witnessed a great show (with a brilliant light show) by this legendary band, the concert only marred by constant rain for the full two hour set.
Lots of gigs planned over the coming weeks but no travels or anything special planned (at this stage anyhow!).
Until next time …
Pete
PS - I’ve finally added some pics from my house, all is going well with my housemates and I’m loving our little vegie garden - nice to eat some home grown food.
