Scott’s parent’s, Bob and Pat, live in a place called Parksville on Vancouver Island and invited us to stay. We were looking forward to some nice lodgings after our horror hotel in Victoria so caught the bus North. Bob and Pat’s place was definitely the opposite end of the scale from the Victoria hotel. They live in a relatively new area near the coast. We dropped our bags off and headed down to the pool as soon as we got there. Once recharged we took Cecil (Bob and Pat’s dog) for a walk down to the beach. He is a strange one, once at the beach he was trying to eat shells. Hey all Flying out today from Qualicum at 1pm and then out of Vancouver at 4pm. We arrive in Frankfurt at 11am their time and fly out to Istanbul at 130 and arrive at 4pm. Will be a long day but hopefully will get some sleep. There are 3 of us on the team flying from Vancouver and the other 2 will be meeting in Istanbul. Shuttles are all set and we are staying at the http://www.sakaryagrandhotel.com/eng/iletisim.php. This is 20kms from the flying field and we get driven there everyday. It sounds like we have a practice day then a tournament the Sporapi Cup for 3days. then the World Cup is after that. I hope I don't trip!! Well it's 10 more days till T-day. Still awaiting for my visa from the Turkish Embassy to expedite our wait time at customs. Had my first day of towing F3J planes and am quite interested in the level of expertise it takes to know how to fly these aircraft. Anyways first entry on this blog to get it up and running. Quick run down of trip Sunday 9th July Flight to Vancouverl left on time, watched 4 films, had a nap,had meal, free drinks every hour, watched 4 films. Arrived 1.50pm, Went to collect hire car. No Pontiac grand am :( So got Toyota Corolla automatic.... Best thing as it did nearly 50 miles to the gallon ! Set off for 45 minute trip to BnB in Port Moody... 2 hours later we found it. Map they gave us was awful and no one told us the street name signs were placed differently to ours so the street you was on was named on the side streets and the side streets were hung across the main street... At this point we were knackered as we had been up over 24 hours. And it was only 4pm Canadian ... read more

La vida in retirement-ville July 4, we arose an at obscenely early hour to bid farewell to Pacific Rim National Park - went to Long Beach and watched it rain for 15 minutes, basically, as the tide began to come back in, then took off for Parksville. Leaving early enabled us to avoid heavy traffic during the snakey bits of Highway 4, always a clever tactic. We arrived in Coombs in time to enjoy second breakfast (as Frodo would say) at Goats on the Roof - delicious chorizo quiche for Kath and teriyaki pork chops for Roberta. Then we went to hang out at the Parksville Beach (where the tide was way out) for an hour or so (Roberta walked the beach, Kath napped) before heading for Maureen and Marcel’s place.
