A: Will the kids at the orphanage know a little bit of English? (No-mom’s answer)
MOM Q: Where are we going?
A: Ban Phru Teow, an orphanage in Phang Na province, Thailand. We will route through Taipei, Taiwan with a stop-over there.
Q: What will we do there?
A: Work with the children at the orphanage, a bit of English teaching and anything else that needs to be done. Spend one-on-one time with my kids for the first time in years….I am not looking for myself, as some have suggested, I am having an adventure. Q: What will we see there?
A: Wonderful people, children with happy faces, a world of amazing things to show my babies and an (unfortunate) amount of tourists. Q: How will we get there?
A: EVA direct to Taipei, THAI airways to Phuket via Bangkok and a taxi to Phang Na province. Q: What will we eat?
A: Sticky rice as much as I can find, an insane amount of meat on a stick and mangoes by the bucket full. A sinful amount of green curry and much Tom Yum. Q: What special thing will you bring from home?
A: My language journal, or THAT DAMN BOOK as w. calls it and of course, my babies. Q: What special thing will you bring back with you to share with your family or friends?
A: Hmmm, a jade bracelet from Taiwan for Lici who is taking care of my 100lb. furry baby, (Niyah the bullmastiff) and beautiful treasures for everyone else. A world of pictures and journals and a tiring amount of stories to tell. Q: What thing do you want to see or do the most?
A: I want to see my babies grow and learn from this experience. For them to comprehend the sheltered world they live in and to develop a better awareness of the world outside Canada. I also can’t wait to see them meet Gai and Som. My babies and my foster babies all together. I want to share time with w. and her boys and just be content. Q: What are you excited about?
A: The whole thing. The stress of traveling with two young children, the excitement of the idea of this, the potential. Q: Are you scared of anything?
A: I liked Marrin’s answer about the sharks, but I am not really scared at all. I think I am bolstered by the beauty of it all. Oh, I am scared of not getting my assignments done for my Grad studies….yes, very scared of that….and giant spiders, maybe jellyfish…I should stop now. (sigh) Q: What is your biggest question about the trip?
A: Is this all going to be worth it in the end? I have taken a huge risk (not unusual for me) and gone ahead with it anyway. But I have to remember that great success take great risk.

From Grandma D. to the mommy of the babies
Thanks for this. This blog is amazing and informative. It gives me, personally, such an insight into the purpose and meaning of this trip. I hope it will be all that you hope it to be and I really look forward to hearing all about it from you and Marrin and Miles when you return. I will really miss you all and know you will be changed by this experience.
