Click on one of the the photos to see the rest (enlarged) We spent the last five days enjoying Wells and Barkerville. We went canoeing on the Bowron Lakes. You can do a 5 day canoeing treck around 10 different lakes in the area. We'll save that for another day ;-) We attended the 3 day folk music and art festival. I bought a colourful hat to try to fit in with the cool young people. Not sure it helped though. So many great bands including OQO (Devon's new boy plays accordion in this band.) I've included a pic below. I felt like a groupie introducing myself to him. And no Devon....I didn't say anything stupid ;-) (He's a cutie). Tomorrow we are heading to Prince George to fill up on groceries and pick up my ... read more

Bittersweet (adj. bit-er-sweet) pleasure mingled with pain or regret WoW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! today is finally here. We are officially on our "one year off". We left Spruce Grove today at 2:00 pm and are here in McBride B.C. Today is bittersweet in that this day is finally here, but another important day for us and many others is also here or it is imminent. Today marks an exciting day for both of us, but especially for Rene. After 14 years of managing Glory View Farms, 13 years of owning his own dairy farm and working on his uncle's dairy farm for several more years as a youth, he has now thrown away all his smelly, dirty barn clothes (for good he tells me....I guess we will wait and see). What ever the future holds for us, living and ... read more

We're in Wells now. There isn't any internet access in Barkerville, or cell phones either. Why would there be? The town is in the late 1800's. It's a total hoot. If Ashcroft was like going back to the '60's, Barkerville is really like going back into history. We were able to stay in a bed and breakfast right in the town. Apparently Barkerville is the only historic site in Canada were you can sleep on site. I'm so glad we did it as we felt really immersed in the period. Everyone working there dresses in costume and stays in character the whole time. Some of them even bring their kids along, and Simone and Adrienne spent quite a bit of time playing with girls dressing in "Little House on the Prairie" outfits. In the morning you ... read more

Sat Sept 8: Before leaving Hyder, Alaska we mailed postcards and other mail, to take advantage of the US postal system. The mail arrives and goes out on a float plane on Monday and Thursday, weather permitting. The weather was cloudy with misty rain as we drove inland. Today’s travels took us to Old Hazelton, British Columbia. We camped at ‘Ksan Campground which is adjacent to the ‘Ksan Historical Village and Museum. The village is a replica of the Gitxsan Village that stood at the confluence of the two rivers for centuries. We walked through the closed village in the evening. Tomorrow the light will be better for photos. There was a path to a scenic area through some woods and brush. We headed down towards the river. It was a narrow and windy path, so ... read more

Hey everyone... Just a few photo's to share with everyone. Ryan and I arrived in Prince George Friday evening and have spent the last few days visiting and playing with some of his friends. We've been staying with some of his friends (Mike and Nicole) who Ryan grew up with here and we've had a great time. Unfortunately the boys have to work on recovering their ego's as us girls kicked their butts royally at pictionary! Unfortunately we haven't had the best weather thus far on our holidays. It rained off and on Saturday but we were able to go out to Mike's cabin to waterski for a bit...the water was FREEZING though so we all lasted for one run only. Today we spent the day at the lake waterskiing which was awesome, poor Ryan ... read more

Man, I thought Portland had a lot of high-rise cranes, almost every direction I looked, there was a crane or two(next to each other). Vancouver is beautiful and picturesque but nowadays, downtown is not very easy on the eyes. It's hard to take a good picture without having a crane in the background. The day was pretty much, uneventful. We declared today, "Rest Day". With the exception of a long walk around downtown(through Chinatown, and around False Creek, Science Expo, BC Stadium, etc.), we pretty much just ate and relaxed for most of the day, resting our sore legs and storing fuel in our system :) Oh I forgot to mention, shopping! I did some shopping d-town but couldn't really follow through because of the extra weight that I would be hauling back. I already ... read more

We left Prince Rupert around noon, and headed eastward towards Smithers. The scenery from Prince Rupert to Terrace was some of the most beautiful we have seen yet on this trip. There is nothing along the road between Prince Rupert and Terrace except scenery, and the highway was nearly empty. It made me wonder from time to time how long you might wait for help here if you had car trouble! Might be another of those nights passed by the side of the road. From Terrace, we kept going straight on, thinking we might stop around Smithers, but by the time we got there, we felt we were on a roll, and just kept going. We drove until about 7 pm, and ended up camping at a small provincial campground about 30 km west of Vanderhoof. ... read more
