As we got all packed up yesterday, we had the opportunity this morning to spend an hour on the roof before we had to leave the hotel and head out of Abu Dhabi.
About half way between Abu Dhabi and Dubai they have recently opened a new service station called the Last Exit, probably because it is near to the border. The design of the area is all about the USA food wagons. Each wagon has its very own drive through area and coloured line leading you to it and then there are also a few parking spaces if you want to get out and walk around the site. The site is very different to anything we have seen anywhere on our travels before.
From there, we continued on into Dubai.
In Dubai this time, we are staying at La Villa Najd Hotel Apartments. This is located near to Mall of the Emirates. The advantage of this hotel is that the apartment has its very own washing machine, so no more expensive laundry to do. No Entertainer voucher for here. Not easy to find, but luckily it is a tall building so we could see it from a
distance, although it was still pretty difficult to get to.
As we have a short time to get the car back to the Ritz Carlton, we dropped off the bags and were on the road again. Getting back onto the main road was also not easy and entailed a couple of circles before we realised we had to go in the wrong direction again to find the entrance to the main road.
We know exactly where the Ritz Carlton is, so finding it is no problem. Not 100% sure though where the Europcar office is, so we pull up and ask the security guard who points at a door next to the car and says ´there´. We got it spot on for once.
Got the Metro back to Mall of the Emirates and walked back to the apartment, after a brief stop in the Mall for a bite to eat for a late lunch. Found the apartment a lot easier on foot!
Back at the new apartment, we unpacked the suitcases and got it looking sort of organised.
We put on the first load of many into the washing machine. The wash was fine, but
machine looks to have a problem with the drying cycle. We called down to reception and they sent a man to look at it. A couple of suggestions were made which we carried on trying through the evening. Too late to do anything more with it today, so we hang the items up around the apartment. It will take ages to get them dry this way, as the air conditioning is pretty cold.
After fighting with the washing machine, we head back into the Mall of the Emirates for a light dinner and use our last Dubai voucher at Shamiana. We love the food there. The food court in this Mall is great for people watching. Especially today as it is the last day of their weekend.
