Friday is the first day of the weekend here, so not a lot happening until the lunchtime brunches begin.
As it is the weekend, they are not serving breakfast in the business lounge so we venture down to the Chefs House for our complimentary breakfast. The selection here is vast and lavish as can be. Every possible breakfast item imaginable was there. We only ate a small amount today, as we have a very large brunch booked.
We spent a while in the business lounge catching up with things and enjoying the free beverages before walking to Media One Hotel for brunch which is just down the road from our hotel.
The tradition in UAE for Friday´s is to partake in a brunch. These seem to take on several forms, but all involve eating lots of food.
Today we are trying out the brunch in The Med restaurant at the nearby Media One Hotel. When we were looking for which brunch venue to visit today, this one seemed close to where we were staying. It was a potentially attractive venue as it advertised three different restaurants merged into one for Friday brunch. We thought this could offer
a good lavish extensive variety of food. Even better considering we have an entertainer voucher for it.
We were led to a lovely table by the window and, as we had pre-booked, there was a lovely personalised sign on the table welcoming us. We felt really important. They give each person a wrist band so that the waiters can see if you have paid for the alcohol package or not. We have not, so have a yellow band. Those that have paid the extra for alcohol have red bands.
The food selection and quality was excellent. Between us, we tried to have a taste of everything. The waiters were always around topping up drinks and removing dirty plates, but it felt very relaxed and clearly professionally attended table service.
We both enjoyed our brunch, but commented that it would appear to be more geared around alcohol than the food. There was karaoke at 3.00pm, but we left before that started. The brunch price also included access to their pool, but we have a great pool at our hotel so did not need this either.
The Med brunch we had today was the first one this year.
It also had an extensive selection of traditional Sunday roast lunch options something like a carvery. With this amount of food on offer, you have to seriously pace yourself with a little and often type regime to gain the most of it.
Back at the hotel, we made use of the business lounge again and brought the travel blog up to date.
In the evening, we went for a walk around the area local to the hotel. As this is primarily a business area and today is the weekend, most shops are shut, but it was nice to see when it was not busy.
We checked up on the tram stops, so we know where to go tomorrow morning, and then headed off towards the marina before heading back towards our hotel. We stopped at the Shami Gourmet Restaurant and had a small Shawarma chicken wrap and a cold drink each. Really great food and very reasonably priced for this area.
