Well, if a day of travel, making my way to the UAE, were ever to go wrong, this was going to be that day! Aside from the good start to the day -- made it to the airport early -- nothing subsequent to this appeared as if was going to work in my favour. My Ottawa-Montreal leg was delayed for starters because of maintenance problems. Very well! Air Canada put me on another flight but the Montreal flight to Munich was also delayed. To make matters worse, we couldn't fly into Munich in any case because the whole airport, arrivals and departures, were cancelled because of freezing rain. We were diverted to Stuttgart goodness knows to what end exactly. Would we be forced to then fly to our final destinations from there or did we still ... read more

A mosque with a big chandelier, IKEA and an ATM machine The main reasons for me to leave Sweden over Christmas are the following: 1 To get away from the cold 2 To get away from the snow 3 To get away from the Christmas decorations 4 To get some sunlight Then it is a bit ironic that I in the two blog entries, this blog entry and the previous one, from my trip to United Arab Emirates have photos of 1 One ski slope 2 One building that looks like a gigantic upside down icicle (Burj Khalifa - follow this link if you don't believe me) 3 Two really tacky Christmas trees Most of the time on this trip I spent in Dubai. But one day I made a day trip to Abu Dhabi, the ... read more

Only two more days of school until the 2nd of Jan...then off to Canada on Thurs. morning. I always loved that Christmas song, "I'll Be Home For Christmas"...now it has personal relevance. I have taken a few last minute Abu Dhabi photos, in preparation of my trip home to share with you...otherwise, stay tuned for more pics of my Christmas back at home. A few of you may actually *STAR* in my first BLOG entry of 2011...lol. Merry Christmas to all, and to all a goodnight (literally...lol...off to bed )....xoxo P.S. NOT looking forward to "Feels like -25c" temperatures, I have to admit. Next year it will be Christmas in Abu Dhabi. Start saving. ... read more

A protected marine sanctuary near Abu Dhabi. Never really got the permit from them but just stopped by on the main land side for a quick dip. Beautiful and secluded with shallow waters for atleast a kilometer, but the sand was quite sticky and full of jagged rocks :( All you really can do is take a dip. Good for a bbq and sheesha. Maybe next time.... read more

It's National Day Weekend her in the UAE. Four day weekend! The UAE is 39 years young. The Emirates decorate the entire cities like Christmas...decal their cars and literally hang out the car windows as they drive down the city streets. I stayed away from most of the crazy stuff, but today I rode my bike down to the Corniche to watch the Formula One Boat Races....it was pretty cool. I have never been to a boat race before. Enjoy the pics...only 9 more school days and I am BACK in Canada for the holidays. The countdown is on....xo... read more

Today (actually last weekend now), we took the bus from Abu Dhabi to Dubai for the World Golf Championships. It is the last stop of the European Tour for 2010. I have never been to a Pro Championship, so I really enjoyed it. The weather was AMAZING...couldn't have been any better. We arrived at 9:30 a.m. and decided to follow Sergio Garcia and David Horsey for their first nine holes....what a great workout that was...lol. Then after a drink and a bite in the shade we headed to the 18th green to watch them come in. Overall, a very enjoyable day...only 15 drms ($5.) each way for the bus. A very nice comfy coach bus and it only took about 1.5 hours. Definitely going back to actually see Dubai soon! Here are the pics.......until next time! ... read more

...and some pics from the top of the tower at Marina Mall. A couple of smaller adventures I took in my last couple of days off, while exploring on my bike (I actually stumbled across the Heritage Village. I had heard of it but never knew where it was...guess now I do). Well, back to school tomorrow...then to Dubai next weekend for the World Golf Championships. I haven't been to Dubai yet, so I am looking forward to it. Stay tuned for pics. After that, I won't be embarking on any more adventures until the new year (however, I may try the para-sailing during the National Holidays in early Dec.). Although, being at home and around family for the Christmas Break, will have it's own usual elements of adventure .....lol..... I love my family, can't wait!! ... read more

...I am not going to say much here other than, it was a very small group which I think I preferred, since we got to ride the camels TWICE (in the evening AND in the morning). That would not happen with a larger group. There were 10 of us , plus 2 guides (we came in 2 vehicles and only 4 of us, plus our guide, camped overnight). The others only purchased the 1/2 day, to Sundown, package. It was wonderful! I completely loved it and plan to do it again, and again.....so now every one of you have to come visit me so I can go with you....lol. I will let the pictures speak for themselves now. Be warned, there are LOTS of 'em. More than any other entry I have made. I hope you ... read more

Day three of holiday week (Tues.): Taking it easy today. Feeling a bit guilty, so I thought I should tackle some schoolwork to rejuvenate myself for the latter half of the week to come (plus, I gotta brutal sunburn on my face on the water yesterday...forgot to use the 20 UV protection, so staying indoors today). Day one consisted of a 3 hour exploratory bike ride, then to the hotel pool, church, then to the mall for McD's and a movie. "Due Date" with Robert Downey Jr. I am not sure about you, but I find he gets funnier that guy...good movie... if you like silly humour...which I usually don't...must have been my relaxed, non-critical state of mind that night...maybe going to church prior, put me in that place...lol. I also saw "Unstoppable" with Denzel Washington ... read more
