Today, we have breakfast in the Emirates Palace. This is another 7 star hotel, so it is nice to go in and have another look around.
The coffee and cakes we had were all sprinkled with real edible gold. Although it was not cheap, it made us feel kind of special.
We had a cappuccino each and then a blueberry cheesecake and a mango cake that we shared between us. Both were truly delicious.
We were then able to have a completely unhindered walk around the hotel and take in all the gold around. There is a serious amount of gold on display everywhere. Staying here is definitely out of our budget, but it is nice to have a good mooch around to see how the rich and famous live.
Back at the Southern Sun Hotel, we head to the rooftop pool to have a swim and our first sunbathing session of the holiday. The pool was nice and warm and the sun beds were good enough to sleep on. There was a lifeguard on site and also a couple of other hotel staff who were there to pamper to everyone’s needs. What a great relaxing way
to spend an afternoon.
This evening we were hoping to catch up with Theresa´s sister Julie and her partner Mick again. But with their wedding just a few weeks away, that was not possible. It’s completely okay with us as during the last five days, we have seen them socially three times. When we travel and take in this part of the world, we always visit them. Both of us have been invited to their stag and hen celebrations this Friday evening.
So we have a look at the map and work out that we can walk to Abu Dhabi Mall which the map says is about one kilometre away. When we got outside and had another look at the map, it looks to be further than we thought, so we decide to go in the car. Good decision.
As today is Thursday and tomorrow is the start of the weekend here, many families are out and about tonight. The roads are extremely busy, and finding a parking space is not easy. We had to pay for parking today (only because we missed the entrance for the free parking) but it was only 5 AED (about £1.00)
for two hours, so not too bad.
In UAE crime is a none existent thing. It is not unheard of for people to leave items on tables and walk away, knowing that when they come back they will still be there. Tonight we saw a great example of this. Whilst parking the car, a VW Golf pulled in next to us. The guy got out and walked into the Mall. When we walked past the car we realised he had left the engine running. He was obviously confident that no one was going to take his car. A very new concept for us.
Abu Dhabi Mall is another mall that looks to be good for us, but inside there are just thousands of people as it is Thursday night.
We find a Shamiana restaurant and decide that would be a good place to eat. The food was as good as normal, and with an Entertainer voucher it makes it even better. Another delicious Indian meal on the buy one get one free deal.
On the way out of the mall, we visit a Cold Stone Creamery so decide to have one of their milkshakes for desert.
George had an intense Vanilla shake and Theresa had a cookies and cream shake with Oreo biscuits.
This evening, we have used two Entertainer vouchers in one meal. That’s a record even for us.
We must be getting used to the roads now, as we managed to get home from the mall without getting lost. We find driving in UAE much safer than Tenerife albeit the drivers can prove to be very very impatient.

You know I thought the highest star rating was 5⭐️⭐️But you live and learn. Hotel looks lovely, cakes yummy. Good choice having a nice relaxing swim, pool look nice and blue. I like the idea of no crime, not sure I would leave my car running though. Very brave driving on the roads not sure that I would give it a go. Milk shakes mmmmmmmmmmmmm, better than mcD I am assuming
