Well here I am in Turkey. I am so hot and I know I shouldn't complain, but oh boy!!!! I arrived in Dalaman today and have joined the good ship Therapy for another few weeks in paradise. Martin and Viv have been around this area for the last few weeks and say that it is spectacular. Looking forward to getting out of harbour and having a look see, and cooling off in the beautiful water. Sad to leave Norway as always, but I had a fantastic time there and enjoyed the kids just so much. Had some great walks and Chris and I managed to get in some fishing. Sadly, I leave without getting my first Salmon but it is ok as I will be back. Chris gat a beautiful salmon on Friday {6kg} and a ... read more

Monday 27th May: the plan for the day was to drive to the Datca Peninsula south of the major tourist resort of Marmaris as it’s reported as having some of Turkey’s most beautiful coastline. However, on checking the distances involved this would have required at least 2 ½ hours driving each way. And, having assimilated and adopted much of the very relaxed lifestyle of Dalyan, we decided instead to stay here and have another stroll to the Lycian/Roman ruins at Kaunos just across the river. We even had the same boatwoman, Mina, who had ferried us across previously and despite our warm greetings she failed to recognise her former customers: another blow to the self esteem. Halfway to the ruins, after no more than 400 yards, we decided to pause and sample the freshly pressed pomegranate ... read more

Turkey Tour 2013 There’s something about the Turquoise Coast of Turkey that keeps us coming back for more. This time there it was the added attraction of staying in my brother’s Peter’s villa in Dalyan: an area we hadn’t been to before. So, on Thursday 23rd May, courtesy of Thomson Flight TOM 708 from Cardiff to Dalaman we arrived back in Turkey at 9pm to be met at the airport by Pete and Margaret who had kindly offered to guide us in our hire car from Dalaman Airport to the Chateau Pete (more properly known the Villa Limon) in Dalayan. On arrival at Dalaman Airport I discovered that I’d booked the hire car from 24th May not the 23rd but Pete came to the rescue and called the car rental agency who agreed to provide us ... read more

Yesterday, as we joined Joanne, Tom and 3 of their friends on a boat, travelled down the Dalyan river through the reeds, past the fish gate, watched a tour operator feed a giant Caretta-Caretta (Loggerhead) turtle blue swimmer crabs and then went over the bar and out to sea, I thought I should share with you some of our experiences in living in a village in Turkey. We went along the length of Turtle Beach (protected as the last beach used by Carettas for laying their eggs), grounded on a small sandy beach in a sheltered bay, swam, drank, ate our bbq fish and swam again before coming home. On the way back, we passed a large 3 masted sailing boat on a Mediterranean cruise and 4 large boats that had made the 3 hour journey ... read more

After landing at Heathrow (monday 2nd May) and passing a couple of hours at an internet cafe near Victoria station in the centre of London, I once again left it to the last minute to make my way out to the airport (Stansted - not far from Harlow - this time) for my afternoon flight to Dalaman on the Mediterranean coast of Turkey. And then, typical of Easyjet, after I had managed to check in and clear security within ten minutes of arriving at the airport just one hour before my 'scheduled' departure time, our plane was then left waiting on the tarmac for almost an hour before we even backed out onto the taxiway! So after the four-hour flight - combined with the two-hour time difference - it was 11pm by the time we had ... read more

After a couple of quiet 'blog' years we're back with a 2011 European trip to Turkey, Greece, Italy and London. First off is a month in Turkey 'cos we liked it so much last time. But this time we aren't doing long distance driving to get around the country but instead are using Dalyan as our base. It is still pre-tourist season and we are enjoyingy village life before we head on further. Dalyan lies between the sea and Lake Koycegiz on a loop of the river. Separating town and Turtle beach are lagoons and water canals where the rushes stand 5 metres high. You wind your way through them on little flat bottom boats to get down to the beach. The other end of the beach is where the Caretta Caretta (Loggerhead) turtles lay their ... read more
