FETHIYE 27-30 May 2023 The day came to check out and we bid our lovely Kas hosts farewell and made our way to the station for the 10.45am bus to Fethiye which was 100TL. It was time to explore something else new. I calculated 3 days in Fethiye would hopefully be enough. One for Fethiye, one for Oludeniz and one for Calis Beach. There was the risk that I might regret that we didn't stay longer but this didn't end up happening. I had booked a room at a hostel called HZD. It was clean, central and a 15 minute walk from the bus station. We had a big private double room to ourselves with a share bathroom and kitchen on each floor, which we weren't sharing with more than 4 other people so it never ... read more

Hi. Following my blog from a couple of days ago we headed back up from the Cornish Coast and Plymouth, on to the New Forest and then back to Corsham. Pete, Helen, Alex and Georgie arrived back from their tour of the States so it was great to catch up with them and spend the next few days traveling around Wiltshire and the Bath area with Helen acting as our guide. Every little road seems to end up at a beautiful village or a historic site. In the New Forest we stayed at a beautiful B&B, a thatched cottage. With Helen we went to the Westbury White Horse which is about 400 years old, visited the World Heritage Site of the Avebury Stone circles and one evening Pete and Helen took us to the Gifford Circus ... read more

Note: if you double click on any of the pictures you will be transferred to the picture gallery where they will be enlarged to half page size. Unlike my previous blogs where I’ve kept a detailed daily record this one is more of a summary: hopefully less text and more photos (muffled cheering from the back of the class). However, owing to some inclement seasonal weather here in Dalyan i.e. UK type weather, there’s not even much in the way of photos. The story to date is therefore as follows: May 1st: Monarch Airlines ZB908 Birmingham to Dalaman a fast (four and a bit hours) and comfortable flight to be met by my brother Pete and his wife Margaret, plus the rep from the car hire company. A swift transit to the Villa Limon in Dalyan, ... read more

Wild nights!!! No, not the party type wild nights but the very windy type wild nights. Friday and Saturday nights have been extremely windy, and even though we are settled into good moorings the boat moves around a lot and the a couple of boats had to work on their ropes during the night. Friday night was spent in a bay that had an old castle/fort up on the entrance to the bay. First signs of settlement are from the 10th century BC. What we climbed to and walked around the whole lot was from the 3rd /2nd century BC. Amazing sites but there are so many of them. We are nearly down to Marmaris on our way back south and I have only two more nights aboard. Still finding neat bays and places to stop ... read more

Well, we have decided to head back down the coast as the winds have been a bit unpredictable and we don't want to be caught battling head winds and having to get to Marmaris by next week when the boat goes on the hard for the winter. I will be leaving the boat Tuesday next week to start the journey home. So, only 6 days to go. It has once again been fantastic. We sailed up as far as Knidos which is a work in progress archilogal site, with a nice bay to spend the night in. A very big site dating back as far as the 4th century BC. Lots of people working on it from 6 in the morning but they don't work from late morning through late afternoon, during the heat of the ... read more

Well we ended up staying in Selimiye all day Saturday as Martin wanted to do a bit of work on the boat and it was about time we had a kick back day. So we hoisted Martin up the mast, swam, ate, a bit of walking and sleeping. I have developed a liking for apple tea and find it very refreshing so drink a few of those during the day.. Robert made a friend in Pepe the lab and became quite well photographed when they were doing their diving tricks off the jetty. On one occasion they were set to go, Robert said yes, and tricked poor Pepe into diving in while he just stood there and then every one stood and laughed. Pay back, a couple of times later, all set and Robert dives in but ... read more

Yes, we are sailing. Every day the wind is such that we get 3 to 5 hours in of sailing under perfect conditions, which means we are whizzing along with the waves crashing over the bow and leaning over so that the boat is on a real lean. Can't get a photo of this as we are on the boat, but I can assure you that it is exciting. The weather continues to be fantastic but we have noticed that the temperature in the pre dawn is getting lower, so the change of the seasons is starting. Still extremely hot during the day and evenings. We haven't explored much but last night spent the evening in a village called Selimiye which is quite pretty. At the moment {6 o'clock in the morning} I am sitting on ... read more

Hi to everyone. Be.careful and aware is because, for the first time in all my travels, I have been scammed. pissed off ? You bet!!! But nothing you can do about it, just keep on sailing. A couple of us went draw money out and when the card wouldn't go in I was worried, long story after that, but Di in NZ rang the bank and within 40 minutes my card was canceled in NZ but they had succeeded in getting a bit of money out. So, not to bad as card was canceled and that would be the end to it. No way!!!! That was midday Friday, by midday Sunday they had taken a bloody lot out. Even though the card was canceled it continued to work. Don't ask me how but tbe bank has ... read more

Yes, the sun is shining and it is very hot. Since arriving here I have had a very lazy time, just reading, swimming and generally doing very little. On Monday I arrived in Dalaman and met Steph and Robin and we got a taxi to a marina called Gocer and found the good ship Therapy with Martin and Viv on board. Great to catch up and find out what has been happening with every one. Gocer is a large village that has 5 marinas so there is quite a hustle and bustle about it.We ate in a restaurant that night and found the food good with lots of sauces. The beer was good as well. All the shops were still open at 11pm and heaps of people still on the streets. So, on Tuesday we motored ... read more
