We left Antalya at 2:00pm after shopping at the square and little shops all over then wandering the town and walking with a full view of the Mediterranean. We then got in the van for a long ride to the next town. When we got there it was about 6:00pm so we got settled in and went to an all you can eat buffet at a 4 star hotel. It was about a 20 minute walk away. They had a good meal set and I had lots of food. After paying we went home and played backgammon till 10:00pm. Good night snake wangler... read more

We had a really nice breakfast. Then went to Antalya. It took five hours with stops now an again. Once we arrived we checked in to our hotel with was really nice. Mom and me had a room with a double and a single bed. I got the single and mom on the double. We then went with the group to a nice restaurant. Ibo told us some good places to go. Then 7 of us went to the beach, while Francisco went to the museum. I went in for a swim. The water was cold but nice. We then headed back to the hotel when the sun started to set. We then all went for supper at the castle restaurant. I got deep fried mussels that were real tasty. Then we split up; some went ... read more

We were now headed for Antayla on the south coast of Turkey. We drove along a range of mountains that at first were sparsely cover with small twisted trees and dry brown grasses until they rose to sheer rock faces. As we moved farther south, the tree cover grew denser. We saw apple orchards and stretches of thick pine. The mountains grew taller and sharper, no longer soft sided ancient and worn, these were sharp thrusting rock with the road winding through valleys, turning corners to beautiful vistas. Then we met a mountain range running perpendicular to the one we had been following. Once we crossed over this range the climate changed dramatically. Now trees were green, not leafless. We could see the oranges on the branches. There were palm trees. This was the Mediterranean. Antayla ... read more

Turkey, my new love!!! It's been so long since my last blog that I'm going to cram 5 weeks into this one. After this blog, there will only be one final entry to go. Oh dear, so sad! Turkey is a place where; Smoking is almost more popular then breathing Old men hangout in coffeehouses, play board games and drink tea, not coffee. Everything is so old that cities have been built on cities of past civilisations, and Money can buy you anything, everything is negotiable. I really love Turkey! My Turkey experience started with a whirling tour which was followed by a 500km trek called the Lycian Way and finished with a week in the old city in Antalya. WHIRLING TURKEY - THE TOUR First, I must say, I hate tours. While tours are great ... read more

I pulled by backpack on and walked down Leda street to the "border crossing" I entered North Lefkosi and hopped in a taxi for the 30 minute trip to Kyrenia. Kyrenia has a picture perfect harbour surrounded my a maze of alleyways full of bars, hotels and shops and is a great place to stay. The first night I had a room in the maze like back streets which was old but nice and enjoyed a great traditional fish dinner, the second night I moved to a room on the harbour with lovely view. The next day it was time to leave so l packed up and headed to the airport catching my flight to Anatalya in Turkey, on arrival I headed to passport control , there must have been at least 500 hundred people waiting ... read more

We are actually in Ucagiz Turkey on the Mediterranean coast and will be on our way to Antalya later today for our last two days in Turkey. We arrived in Turkey on June 9 in Istanbul and spent four days there mainly to pick up Keely but also to tour the city along with Liz's sister, Mary, and her family. While there we met several of Keely's international friends from countrys all over the world. We also got the tour of her school, Bahcesehir University (sorry, don't know how to add the accents). While there she also got her grades for the semester, which was 3.7 and 3.4 for the year. We are proud of her. Of course the biggest concern from our friends and relatives was for our safety due to the protesting going on ... read more

Having spent an interesting night in the Dianara Hotel, Kemer – the town closed down completely at 6pm and the bar in the hotel at 7pm!!!!! We were presented with a good Turkish breakfast which included a pastry filled with chilli scrambled eggs, different but not bad at all. Packing everything into the car we drove the 15km to Phaselis. Turning off the D400 we entered a wonderful pine forest. Paying 8TL each (approximately £3.20 GBP) we continued into the forest until being greeted by a sandy bay. Woolly says – it was lush, really beautiful. Through the trees I could see pieces of the ruined city with dappled light surrounding them and complete quiet – well except for me! Ian and Jo bought me a leaflet which told me that Phaselis was built around the ... read more

Taking the D400 in an easterly direction we opened the car windows and sped towards Perge. Passing hundreds of road side sellers with succulent strawberries and huge bags of oranges there was plenty to see. From the hotel complexes to the small one room dwellings and the lone cows on any piece of grass. The traffic lights fascinated Woolly. Woolly says – They count down!!!! When red they count down to when they turn to green and vice versa, will have to recommend them to Mr Cameron, it would save a lot of road rage!!!! Taking the turning to Perge we rounded a bend to the most splendid sight of an amphitheatre, pulling into the car park we could see remains in all directions. Paying our 15TL each (approximately £6.20 GBP), expensive for Turkey, we entered ... read more

After a long flight, we made it to Turkey. It was a smooth flight. We had some time between the flights in Chicago, so we decided to try out Chicago style pizza. All I have to say is stick to McDonalds at airports. Turkey and Jordan flight were departing at the same time. We had some action at the security gate. There were around 400 Jordanian families in the line. I've outsmarted them. We used the first class gate. We were on board in no time. I've got some pictures on the plane. As we were leaving Dallas the sun was setting down over the horizon. After about half an hour flight in pitch black, the sun rose from the other side. It was an amazing sight to see. I'll share them with you. I hope ... read more

This one is going to be brief as there's really nothing to tell. We walked around and in the old city of Antalya. Antalya resides in the middle of history with its old harbor and antic city. This city was surrounded by a historic wall from Roman Empire. Today, there's only a part of the wall and a clock tower remain intact at the North gate. On the East side of the wall, there's another entrance to the old city called Hadrianus Gate. Once you're in the old city, all the paved roads will lead to the harbor. The modern city of Antalya didn't really start to appear until World War II. Until then, the Old City was Antalya, with its massive stone walls, meandering streets, and picturesque old houses built so close they often overshadow ... read more
