We just spent a month in Istanbul a few months ago. I know the area at the top of the funicular near the music shops well. We spent many a day in the tea shops around there and Istiklal. Sorry they are still having problems. We left the day of the first bombing and the recent one on Istiklal was near our apartment. Sounds like you are enjoying your stay. It is a nice place with friendly people. Make sure you get out to the Prince's Islands. We look forward to following along.
