The work continues to get things “ship-shape” on Tsamaya. We had been noticing that the water pump was not working correctly as it seemed to be leaking “air” so the pump would turn on even when we weren’t turning on the water. The water pump is in a very awkward location to get to easily so even though Bob could do it, we are getting smarter in our old age and picking and choosing the jobs that we farm out to others. This fell into that category for sure. We made contact with Erika again to find out who to work with – she put us in touch with a company, Merlin, and they came out quickly to look at the problem. They diagnosed a problem with the accumulator, had another one in stock and came ... read more

Finally, time came to return to Tsamaya. Our original plans were to fly back to Turkey where Tsamaya has been for the winter, but a couple of weeks before our flight, Bob hurt his leg to the point of having trouble walking. Thankfully after checking it out to be sure it wasn’t due to a blood clot, the Dr. figured it was more likely a torn muscle. We are fortunate to have an excellent physical therapist that we have used before and she was able to work miracles on Bob. His leg improved and by the end of May we were comfortable with the idea of leaving and getting back to the boat. It was a long trip starting on Monday, May 31st leaving our house at 8AM with our neighbor, Brian, driving us to the ... read more

Since getting back from our trip to Ephesus we have been staying busy in Marmaris. There seems to be plenty to keep us going with projects on the boat as well as a few outings into town to shop. Once we went in just to have a relaxing day with nothing specific to do but wander – what a treat! As I think I have mentioned before the Marmaris Yacht Marina where we are currently is not right in the town of Marmaris. We typically like to stay at places where we can easily walk into town, but this is not that kind of place. Fortunately, they have an excellent service by mini-bus that goes into town regularly. Well, it has changed some since getting here, but still is workable. In the beginning there were about ... read more

We are here in Turkey on a 90-day visa, therefore decided to stay for most of it in order to fit in some travel around Turkey. High on our list to get to was the archeological site of Ephesus as we had heard from many others it was definitely worth seeing. There are other places along the Turkish coast that we will more than likely get to next season that are closer to Ephesus, but with extra time and less tourists here now, we decided it was worth the extra travel time to do it now. We found we could easily catch a daytime bus from Marmaris to Aydin so we could actually see some of the scenery on this trip. We could leave at 8:30AM and get to Aydin by 11:40AM, then wait about 30 ... read more

Well, the next occasion to celebrate was Bob’s birthday on Oct 25th. As we just got back from our wonderful trip to Cappadocia, I was feeling bad that it wouldn’t be too exciting. Thankfully, as Bob keeps telling me – when we do these trips around our birthdays, they are for both of us! The one thing we did know that would make the day special was getting to reconnect with Darren and Sue. Darren, we got to know years ago (approx. 40 years ago!) when we all lived in Botswana. We were so excited to hear from him before we finalized our trip to Cappadocia so we could coordinate our dates to be sure to be here in Marmaris when he and Sue would be able to visit. Unknown to me, Darren has been following ... read more

As is the case when we come into a port, we always check for the wi-fi password and when is the local fruit and vegetable market. We found that the large market is held on Thursdays and a smaller version is at the same location on Sundays. With arriving here on Tuesday, we definitely knew what we would be doing Thursday morning. Now, what to do on Wednesday? Well, with Marmaris being a place we have never been before we decided to hop on the small bus that picks you up in front of the marina every hour on the half hour and takes you to town (drops you off in front a good size grocery store, Migros) for the whopping price of 5.75 TL (62 cents each). It is about a 20-minute ride and then ... read more

Yes, as Tsamaya is a sailboat, we were finally able to leave Fethiye and head toward her winter home f which will be at the Marmaris Yacht Marina. It isn’t that far away, but we decided with the weather forecast we could take a few days more in order to have a chance to anchor out and do a little exploring as well. We not only wanted to enjoy the pleasure of being on anchor for a few days, but with having new batteries Bob also wanted to check out how things were working while away from shore power for a few days. It turned out to be a great first day away from Fethiye, although we could have used a little more wind. We were able to get a sail out which was a great ... read more
