So i have been in Jordan for over a week now, and I have been really busy. After the first couple days of easy activities in the town, we met Jordanian/Palestinian people and had a meal at their house, we went to some ancient Roman sites, have gone to the grocery story so we had snacks in our apartment. We bought the best sorbet I have ever had...mango and raspberry! It is sooo good. Today, we met the Ambassor of Jordan to the United Nations. He talked about politics and relations between the US and the Middle East. This afternoon we are going to a Muslim newpaper where the muslims who work there are very conservative so we are to cover up as much as possible even though it is 92 degrees today! I would rather ... read more

As I write this I can't believe that we only spent four days in Jordan...we got so much done, saw so much, and had such a great time. We are FOR SURE headed back to this travel destination gem. We threw some extra days into Jordan when we shortened our time in Egypt. We had only expected these two Middle East stops to be quick, but we both agreed that Jordan deserves (and will someday get) much more time from us. Originally our only goal for Jordan was to see one of the Seven Wonders of the World: Petra. Petra got broad international notice when Indiana Jones found the Holy Grail there...we just found an amazing beautiful place and wonderful people. We arrived in Jordan in the late morning and quickly got over to the Royal ... read more

Today I arrived to Jordan by bus from Damascus. It was fairly uneventful at the border which was nice. I had lunch with a Irish guy named Steve that I met at my hostel who is going to work for an NGO in Togo, Africa for 7 months. Then I hibernated from the heat for the worst part of the day (it was 40C), and just too hot to be walking around with a long dress and backpack, so I relaxed until it was cooler. Aterward, I checked out the Roman ampitheatre and odeon that is Amman's main (and really only) attraction. I sat in the park surrounding the ruins and planned the next leg of my Middle East journey, and then I strolled around the streets. I shared my room with a woman and her ... read more

Yesterday was a free day:) Well, I had some papers to write, nothing too big, but I like to take my time to write them. So, I just hung out and wrote papers with some other girls. We had lunch. Then finished our papers. Then I began my reading for today until everyone was finished. Then Holly, Jessica, and I made our way back to Mecca Mall. Nothing too interesting really. We walked around forever then ate some good ol' american pizza hut! It tastes just the same as at home, but my system isn't doing too well with the foods. (Unfortunately Jamie they did not have a buffet:( )I keep eating though! A little gi (gastrointestinal) distress isn't going to stop me:) Then we went home. Well, it is lucky we made it home actually. ... read more

Today we visited "The Center for Defending Freedom of Journalists." It was a very interesting place. We met with some of the Mansoor's which was the family we visited the other night. While we were there we also were able to meet the Editor in Chief of the 2nd largest newspaper in Jordan. He was a very intelligent and interesting man. Then we were finished with class by like 11:30ish again today. Of course we have a couple of papers due tomorrow. Most people are getting them finished today and going to a place called Jaresh. It bascially is a very nicely preserved ancient Roman ruins. I on the other hand take forever writing two 3 page papers and will not be participating on the trip, but that is ok, I like to hang out at ... read more

A fantastic trip. All I can say is that I am in love with Jordan and want to move there and live in the desert! I floated in the Dead Sea and became Dead Sea Mud Monsters. Did a hike through a desert gorge into waterfalls - yes, in the middle of the desert Played Indiana-Jo in the carved rock faces of Petra. Had a brilliant Turkish bath (in Jordan) much needed after a day of exploring Slept under the stars of Wadi Rum ('Valley of the Moon' desert) and took a jeep safari to watch the sunset over the mountains and Peered down through a glass bottom boat to the colourful fishes and corals of the Red Sea in Aqaba City ... read more

Today was a beautiful day here. The weather was not too hot, there was a nice breeze all day and the night is a bit chilly, but pretty perfect. We went to a place that is very high up in Jordan. Basically we walked around some ancient Roman ruins. In a sense we walked through the history of Jordan in a big circle on top of a very large hill. When you look down and around from the hill you can see where the wealthier parts of Amman are and the much older, poorer parts are. It was very interesting to see what we read about. There are also some statues in a museum we were able to see. Then class was over at like 11:00 am. So, most of us went back to ACOR and ... read more

Hello everyone! This will probably be short, it is 10pm here and I have reading to do and some sleep to get:) Today we did not have class until 3:30ish so, I basically got up early and lounged around the place we are staying, it was nice. Then we went to a family's home and had a traditional Jordanian dinner. It was good. There was chicken and lamb with lots of new spices! It was almost too much to handle all at once. There were about 30 people total. There were lots of people our ages from the family, and most spoke English very well. Children in Jordan are required to learn English from about what is the equivalent age of 1st grade for us. Then most of us went to a cafe type place and ... read more

Today was very hot! It was the warmest day since i have been here, luckily it is nice out right now but then again it is 11:15pm while it is 4:pm EST. We began our day like usual discussing the readings and talking about what would happen over the course of the day. We were going to the gold and spice markets to see them and to apply them to what we had to read for the day before. A group of 4 of us, found our way to the markets and after we went to an ancient Roman theater where they had a museum of folk art and modern history. It was amazing to see the theater. It was almost is perfect conditions despite the fallen poles. Afterward, we were so hot and tired that ... read more
