Hey all, I have just completed week 2 in Jordan and things are still going great hear with much less confusion. I started classes the day after the my excursion to Ajloun Castle and love them so far. I have class for 3 hours in two sections starting at 8:00 am. My first teacher is Muhammad (common name over here as you may know) and is apparently the best in the school. He speaks the entire time in Arabic and is constantly joking around which is great just on the fact that we can finally joke in Arabic a new level of language competency! Our second teacher is Ra'id and not quite as good. He makes forced jokes that are not as funny (although he laughs) and speaks in English when he really doesn't have to ... read more

Esimesel katsel Iisrealisse sisenedes saatis juba Jordaania piir mind jutule võtmata tagasi. Järgmisel päeval uuesti proovides õnnestus siiski piirivalvurid ära rääkida ja Jordaaniast väljumistemplit mulle passi ei löödud. Iisreali pool hoidis mind hiljem selleparast 6 (kuus) tundi kinni, kusjuures piir suleti 2h ennem minu vabaks laskmist. Juudid lubasid passi märgistamata labi lasta ainult tingimusel,et sama piiripunkti kaudu näda... read more

Al-Salam Alaykum from Jordan everyone! I have been here for a week now and I thought that it was about time to fill you in the happenings here as I sit in my apartment awaiting the first day of classes tomorrow. Starting from the beginning... My flight was great as flights go. I was one of the nine of so white people on the plane, the rest were Arabs and most from Jordan. I got to sit next to a sweet little lady going to Damascus and we chatted in Arabic on and off the whole flight which was a great warm up for getting into Jordan itself. After a 10 hour flight, fitful sleep and two meals, we landed in Amman. The majority of the young English speakers on the plane quickly grouped up and ... read more

Well since completing one full year in this crazy lifestyle i call a job i thought i would spoil myself with a quick 5 day holiday to Jordan. Now many of you may have heard of this place from the past news reports of continued territorial fighting between lebanon and israel over the many years and recently the bombing in a 5 star hotel in the cities capital.....well myself and my brave companion Dave decided to see what all the fuss was about..... We actually flew all the way from perth as i had a flt on my roster arriving on the 25th mid afternoon, departing to Amman early hours of the morning of the 26th we arrrived noon to a crazy reception of taxis and people everywhere with no real waiiting line nor direction...we managed ... read more

Myself and some friends recently returned from a 10-day trip to Jordan, and though normally I would not bother with this sort of thing, we had such a great time that I felt it necessary to share a few photos and experiences with the rest of the world! We arrived in Amman, and stayed there for a few nights while visiting variously Jerash, the Dead Sea and then on to the Dana nature reserve. There is vast scope for the increasingly popular 'eco-tourism' trend here in jordan, with I believe six or seven national parks (nature reserves). As such we had a brilliant time riding through glorious expanses of beautiful scenery on horseback and on foot. Wadi Rum was especially memorable. We drove out there (shame) on 4x4s and then had an excursion, again on horseback, ... read more

Arriving so late into Jordan (Thanks to the wonderful organisation of the Egyptian ferry companies) we didn't see much of Aqaba, and headed out the next morning for the Wadi Rum desert. Wadi Rum was awesome, we took jeeps out off-roading into the desert and stopped off to climb sand dunes, take photos and stop at the place that Lawrence of Arabia hid out all those years ago! It was perfect temperature - soooo hot but so dry that it was a beautiful heat to be in! One of our faves was stopping at a Bedouin family's (goat hair) tent out in the desert and drinking their yummy traditional tea while lounging around on their carpets and cushions. Could have stayed out there forever! Wadi Rum was one of Kristi's favourite days in the Middle East. ... read more

Last day in Delhi was nice. I rented myself a car for a few hours (ok, a taxi, to drive me to posh district where the embassies are) - 350Rs, however, my lunch in this posh safe-haven can be expensive... but hey, still cheap... Flight towards Jordan was in early hours, so no partying and big farewelling from Delhi. Don't know why the flight has to leave so early, but i got to get up at 2:30 am. As Delhi was still sleaping, the airport was like a huge ant town, bustling with activity... First impression of Jordan... VERY HOT and this is different heat to the one in India, as it is also very dry. Maybe thats why, its easier to survive here with the heat of 40C+. As the flight to Europe is only ... read more

So I am home. I can't believe three weeks went by so fast. The experience was amazing in all aspects and I'm so incredibly happy I was able to have the oppertunity to see a part of the Middle East with people I love. I saw things I'd never seen, I learned things I'd never dreamed of, and I laughed like I've never laughed before. It is for these reason I want to thank all my sponsors very very much. You have all contributed to a part of my life I will never forget. Some post trip notes: - A quick thought on the Arab mentality... I found in Jordan an attitude that is very difficult to describe in words. If you've ever worked with Arabs maybe you can understand. They all have every best ... read more
