Dancing under the stars
Distant heat Wadi Rum 2007 with my boy Dave Well since completing one full year in this crazy lifestyle i call a job i thought i would spoil myself with a quick 5 day holiday to Jordan.
Now many of you may have heard of this place from the past news reports of continued territorial fighting between lebanon and israel over the many years and recently the bombing in a 5 star hotel in the cities capital.....well myself and my brave companion Dave decided to see what all the fuss was about.....
We actually flew all the way from perth as i had a flt on my roster arriving on the 25th mid afternoon, departing to Amman early hours of the morning of the 26th we arrrived noon to a crazy reception of taxis and people everywhere with no real waiiting line nor direction...we managed to fight our way through to get a cab with a very friendly taxi man telling us stories of jordan in broken english.
We had to kill some time in the city before embarking on another crazy journey to the south of Jordan in a bus with loads of fellow party goers to a dance festival in Wadi Rum called Distant heat.
We reached this
desert oasis at 9pm time to have a quick english shower(baby wipes) in our V.I.P tents already set up for us complete with beds and blankies(now thats what i call camping!!!)..change into my dance clothes and head to the outdoor arena 10 metres outside my tents door.
It was 10 hours of Dj Dave Seaman and Above and Beyond pumping tunes into the night and mid morning under a blanket of stars in the middle of the desert with 2000 other nationalities. 8am was pick up to head to Aqaba for the continuation of the event at the Tala bay beach club with local jordanian djs........but sadly for us oldies....we had had a total of 18 hours for dave and me 11 hours sleep over the last 4 days and jet lag and extremely sore bodies from cutting shapes on the dance floor was wearing us down and quickly!!! we tried very hard to check into our hotel early but to no avail so we hung out by the pool all day like very fat vegetables.....then once checked in we thought we would have a quick 3 hour nap and be ready to get up and do it all again.....but
sleeping through the alarm and waking up to girls passing our room at 1am in the morning singing achey brakey heart and completely forgetting where we were lost in the dark of our room woke us in histerics for about ten minutes to only fall asleep just as quickly for yet another 9 hour marathon sleep.
Well my party days are just about over....cant keep up with the youngings forever....eheheheh
We hired a car and took off to explore the rest of Jordan....First stop was petra....the 'rose city" or best known for the scenes in indiana jones movies.....We arrrived at noon got quickly changed and headed straight down to this hidden city built amongst the gorges and was only discovered by an explorer very recently in time, but was bulit in the 3rd century BC by the Nabataens. I forgot to mention that we travelled to Jordan in the hottest month of the year and we happened to time it even more perfectly for a heat wave so tempts were over 45 everyday.....so out comes the slip slop slap and a lot ot water for our 7 hour hike through this amazing city absolutely mindblowing!!!!! A must for anyone who
Petra
Donkeys hiding in the shade ever wants to go to jordan.
Then it was back to the hotel for a well deserve dip in the pool...mind you this was also 30 degrees....and many cold beers......and to try some local cooking arabia style....
We were off early to the Dead sea.....to yes find jesus......the more we drove around jordan the more spirital it became....there are many sites to see where moses or jesus or someone from the bible did something here.....so was quite interesting.
Well im sure many of you had heard of the dead sea and thought to yourself 'do you really float?" well im here to confirm that yes you indeed float......it is actually impossible to drown!! But the whole experince left us a little sore...as if you have a small blister or a pimple or scratch the salt actaully feels like it is burning your skin....and ladies never go into the dead sea with freshly shaven legs...ooouuuccchhhhhh!!!!!! But it was loads of fun playing with the mud and just floating the day away.
We ag again spoiled ourselves with many more cold coronas and cocktails whilst we relaxed our days aways by the pool at the very gorgeous 5 star Movenpick hotel....But our
