Green Desert
It rained so much this winter - the desert is almost green... The last day before a vacation is always hectic, busy, it's all about running around to get everything done: this time was the same - my friends live in this amazing quit, distant farm when at nights you hear nothing.
only bambis dads barking.
I, on the other hand, live in central tel aviv. on a main street. the only thing you hear at night here are cars, busses, shouting drunk people, city council meintanece staff and machines, emergency cars, loud young neighbours, etc
almost the same
To keep them sane and not hating tel aviv from the first day I have decided that we will spend some nights away, at may fathers place (remotish, quiter, larger) away from tel aviv.
which means that I too, have to leave home for a week so I have to organise some things:
- cat sitter
- a suitcase for a week
- Teddy, the dog's, bed, toys, food
- leave a clean desk at the office so I did.
I didn't sleep for a week to get my desk cleared, I carried staff around all day long to make everyone (mainly pets) happy, I was running around on the last day, dead line: 14:30 at the airport
I MADE IT!!!
14:30 I made it to the airport. only when I settled in with a nice view of the passengers exit I felt free and comfortable to check my emails. as I saw the email, I wanted to kiss the one who invented smartphones.
the email said: Dear Merav, the show must go on! we are in Munich and we missed the flight (damn fog!!!). We must take the flight no. 859 with austrian airlines from vienna that is arriving at 00.50!!
I was shocked.
I have free 11 hours!!!!!
what should I do now?what can i do with free unplanned 11 hours?
I felt sorry for them as the trip from Florence to tel Aviv took 23 hours and three countries. all due to extremely bad weather
I felt sorry for them as, after 4 years of hearing me saying that Israel is amazing in winter (as we don't really have one) and they should visit, they have arrived on the stormiest day in 8 years. it was cold, it rained, it snowed in Jerusalem..... and I was expecting two exhausted tourist, on their first vacation out of Europe
I felt sorry for them for the solution i found to the question:
"what do you do with tourists on a snowy, cold, grey, rainy day?"
you take them to a museum. in which museum can you spend a day(as we are not in London)?
the holocaust museum. on their first day in israel we went to
Yad Vashem , the holocaust museum.
a bit shocking to someone who just flew 23 hours to see sunny Israel...
The museum is painful, educating and impressive (that's a completely different post material I might share with you one day)
on the other hand,
from here,
the only way is up.....
