Sunset over Calton Hill
9.30pm view from the top of Arthur's Seat overlooking Calton Hill in Edinburgh. Remember the picture of the Roman Monument during our previous trip to Edinburgh? Well, you can just about see it on the left-hand side of the sunset. Hello!
So.....what have we but up to? well, some of you may would have known that Jase's brother Jon got married recently in Singapore. So Jase went to S'pore to attend the wedding. while he was back in Asia, I went on a little trip of my own.
I started off by flying to Scotland (YUP! AGAIN!). Rozhan and I spent 5 days together in Scotland. We flew into Glasgow & then took the bus to Ediburgh. Stayed at a place called Budget Backpackers. It was awesome....very clean and tidy, central and a great place to move around from. Rozhan took off to Whitehaven for the night so I went on a little tour to the Loch Ness. It was fun...took the Haggis Adventure bus tour which started off at 8.15am & came back at 8pm. we had a very entertaining Scottish bus driver who gave us quite a history lesson on Scotland. well, did I manage to hunt for Nessie? Nope....but i had an awesome time. Again, Scotland is beautiful. We had the most amazing weather.
After the bus tour, Roz & I met up the following day and did some sightseeing in Edinburgh. We went on board
View from the top of the Scott Monument
See the hill on the far left of the picture? That's Arthur's Seat....that's where I took the previous photo of the sunset. the Royal Yacht Britannia, walked 295 steps up the Scotts Monument & also went to the Botanical Gardens. Then, we went back to Glasgow where we stayed for a couple of nights & met up with Maureen. We went to the house for an art lover in Glasgow, check out some of the pics. I love the piano. Rozhan left that Sunday & I went on my own adventure.
Next stop was Newcastle Upon Tyne. That was beautiful. See the pictures of the Millennium Bridge & Tyne Bridge as well as the Angel of North. Stayed in a hostel called the Albatross. Had to share a room with 3 guys, which was pretty scary.....but I survived....despite the snoring. I met these 2 guys who work as dolphin trainers at Seaworld, Brisbane! thought that was really cool.....they thought I was 19! I took that as a compliment 😊
After Newcastle I took the train to York. York is amazing. Lots of quirky streets & there's so much history in that place. I went for the York Ghostwalk....that was really good.....basically its just a tour of the town with a guide who tells you stories....some scary ones...I also went on
Cowgate
That's the name of the street where the backpackers. This is just a random photo of a pub which decided to follow the theme. the Roman walk in York. (FYI: Constantine built an empire in York in the 300s AD. So you can imagine the amount of history behind this place). The Minster is huge....and underneath the building, where the crypt is, you can see the different layers of the area. The Romans built their army headquarters at that same spot, then the Norman cathedral was built and finally the York Minster on top of that.
From York, I made a stopover at Leeds. There wasn't really a lot to see in Leeds. Its just like any other city. I was glad that I only had a day there. After Leeds, I went to Cambridge and stayed with Benjy & Michelle. That was nice. We walked around Cambridge town centre, went into King's College, had loads of yummy food and also went punting on the river Cam. We went on a 'chauffered' punt but if you are adventurous enough you should hire a punt and attempt if yourself! We witnessed a couple of accidents, mostly first-time punters caught by surprise when their punt got knocked by another one. It was a good laugh :P
then after 12 days of holiday, I was
The Royal Yacht Britania
This used to be the Royal Yacht. The Queen sailed many million miles around the world in it until it was decommissioned. It is now on display at the port of Leith in Edinburgh. back in Bournemouth.
what have we been up to since we got back? well......Rozhan had her leaving dinner...so you can see some of the pictures posted.....em...we've been biking to the beach whenever the weather permits. Benjy & Michelle came to visit us in Bournemouth. I think they had a good time.....eating....partying....though the weather wasn't great.
This friday will be our last day at work (25th August). We're off on our contiki holiday of central europe on the 1st September!! that's for 20 days! then we'll be in London for a couple of days to get some rest, then off to Portugal (The Algarve) for 1 week!!
