Gabby the motorhome , Sion and us two are currently sitting high above the Vale of Clwyd. It is a glorious view . We are parked up on an empty car park at the Clwyd Gate Public house . A pub with a view. It was a pub some while ago but sadly has closed down . Behind is now an empty motel . It looks dilapidated and rather sad. Why a Travel Lodge has never bought the place I never know. Living here in the past we loved the place . We always treated it as a visitor would . We always looked at the Vale through fresh eyes. The Clwydian Hills forming a backdrop which now is tinged purple with heather. Ruthin is such a pretty town . The red sandstone of the local church St Peters . The castle , the old gaol, medieval house Nant Clwyd y Dre and much more.
But wind back a few days and it is the start of another Covid week. By now our stomachs should have been on a rollercoaster ride. We should be getting Gabby ready for the French trip. In only a few days we should be heading
for Canterbury for an overnight stop before making our way to the tunnel for our train . We ought to be washing our girl to get her pristine for her trip but we were doing none of that. This was a trip destined not to be.
Our blogs would be more home than away. Looking at Clay Cross and wondering what a visitor would make of it . New plans for a new station, for cycle paths and a new railway station . A new Burger King being built next door to a McDonalds and a Hungry Horse Pub . All we need to complete the set is a KFC.
As we sat high above the Vale we made the decision to put an offer in for a house we saw last week . It was turned down immediately . We needed to hoover Gabby out , give her a polish and clean her fridge . Should we up our offer and see what happened ? I sulked sitting there above the Vale thinking about houses and holidays . As a child we had no car so trips were few and far between . A bus trip to
Chester , one to Llanberis and another to Chatsworth . Holidays with relatives in Scotland . We had to accept that travelling was on hold and concentrate on house buying . Bid number two made - last offer - we are not putting another one in but we want an answer pretty quick . They were thinking about it . Dont think too long . They have another viewer tomorrow and we want an answer . We never got one so withdrew the offer . Never wanting to have a bidding war going on we walked away.
Tuesday another house another day. We drove down to Wrexham . The town looked sad. Empty shops . Empty houses and buildings . Streets that once were clean looked sorry for themselves . Was the next house ours ? It was pristine , it was completely finished . It left us nothing to do and that left us cold . Nowhere to leave our mark.
Gabby found herself yet again parked up for the night overlooking the beautiful vale.
