North Wales is both blessed and cursed by its string of castles stretching from Harlech in the west to Ewloe and Flint in the east. It's said that you only need to travel 20 miles between one castle and the next. We decided to put the theory to the test starting in the East with the ruined castles of Ewloe, Denbigh and Flint before moving to the much larger Rhuddlan Castle near Rhyl. There are two styles of castle of which Ewloe and Caergwrle fall into the earlier category. They were built in the 12th century by Llewellyn ap Gruffydd as a defence against the English. Geo: 53.3196, -3.48868Next stop was this town to see the beach. There wasn't much of a beach here, instead a short distance offshore there were many wind turbines, which told us that this wasn't a fun place to be. It was so windy and cold, we stayed here for a few minutes, watching the sand blow along the beach. Otherwise, it was good to see the sea again.
