TRISTRAM THE GOAT...AND OTHER TALES! Creating a special place on a Welsh hillside May 2020 THE BACKGROUND In 2002, we took a leap of faith, leaving behind home and businesses in Dorset to follow a dream. We discovered a derelict farm called Coedmor-fach, nestling on a hillside overlooking the Afon Teifi near Lampeter in West Wales, and converted the old farmhouse and ranges of barns into six cottages. After taking possession of the property in late 2002, and with the help of local builders and tradespeople, we embarked on a crazy six month programme of work that culminated in opening five of the cottages as holiday lets and moving into the sixth. The ambitious programme was only achieved through dedicated hard work, a great building team, and freakish good Welsh weather over the winter and spring ... read more

This will be my last travel blog post from Wales: (Written last night) NEXT STOP: SCOTLAND!!! I cannot the moment my heart is very heavy. Life is a crazy little thing, it takes you through so many little twists of fate. I am so grateful for having had such a blessed opportunity to experience the great wealth of things that such a little town in Wales had to offer to me. There are so many emotions that I do not have words for. I was able to accomplish so much and still managed to leave some of the more important things too late to serve justice to. I will never forget the form of person that I came to Wales as...but more importantly I could not appreciate any more than in this very moment the ... read more

"Wild animals could not stay in a country where there were so many people Pa did not like to stay, either. He liked a country where the wild animals lived without being afraid."- Laura Ingalls Wilder. -so here is a heads up to everyone, tomorrow I will be getting a tattoo on my left wrist that reads "Crwydro" this means "Wander" in Welsh. I felt that my parents especially needed a better explanation of why I would get a tattoo. When I was a little girl, I admired the Little House on the Prairie series because my Dad and Mom would read it to me in my Grandparent's basement in Kansas...Laura and I had a lot in common. Our hero was our Daddy, our role model was our Mama. Neither of us ever stayed in one ... read more

Hello again all, I am sorry for the long hiatus between posts recently. To be honest, I did not write because the honey-moon period of magical adventures had ended for me. I was learning who my real friends were and what I would have to do to continue on with those who I could keep close. I was learning that it is not always sunny or always rainy in Wales, there is no perfect weather just as there is no perfect place. For so long I believed that I had found heaven on earth, and although I still believe that I have found something very close to it, I have dealt recently with many of the same issues that I deal with in the USA. Human nature is a universal state and it is very flawed ... read more

As I sat atop a stone age hill fort with two of my very close friends here in Lampeter, David, and Rae, the words that Dave said struck me. "I wonder how fast my time here will go by. I will be looking back at this moment three years from now as if it were today again. Time is odd like that." There is something about the hill fort, something about the way that the scenery makes you feel. It is almost as if time has stopped. You are neither in the present or the past but somewhere in between. Therefore all you are left to do is wonder about your future. I love Wales, it is so beautiful and it has so many hidden secrets tucked away in the hills. When I first arrived at ... read more

Hello all, This will be the start of my regular blog posts. I feel awful that I have not had the time to write, but to be honest, this is the first time that I have sat still in a very long time. Since I wrote last, I have traveled to London and then from the south of England to Southwestern Wales. I have visited Central London, Westminster Abbey and Big Ben. I rode past the Globe theatre and stayed 4 nights in a local pub/youth hostel, wherein I learned that I could have fun and learn life lessons at the same time. I have traveled to Kent County to visit Henry VIII's castle of Leeds, Canterbury Cathedral, The White Cliffs of Dover, Warwick Castle. I have walked through the home that held the birth of ... read more
