Stromness

The rain was still pouring down when we awoke and water surrounded the house. We were very pleased we did not have to withstand this storm sitting in the van. Orkney had had 40mm of rain in 24 hours, the most for 35 years.

Fortunately, it cleared up in the early afternoon and with Everard and Eileen we went for a pleasant walk along the coast and into the port of Stromness.

The Merkister Hotel, which is scenically located on the shores of the Loch of Harray, served the four of us a delicious dinner in the evening.
