An exciting finale to our time in Shetland!

Bressay and Noss, islands which lie just off Lerwick have dramatic cliffs rising to 500ft which house huge colonies of nesting birds, particularly gannets. We took a bouncy boat trip around the island in a small but fast inflatable which gave us the opportunity of seeing the cliffs and bird life from a different angle. Things got particularly frantic when the gannets started diving for fish thrown from the boat.

We caught the evening ferry to Kirkwall, the capital of the Orkney Islands, where we were met by Everard and Eileen who live on mainland Orkney. Eileen was Wendy’s bridesmaid and we had not seen her for over 40 years.
