Puffins at last!

We had a sunny morning walk around the cliffs and headlands of St Nininian’s Isle.

Then we continued our journey to the Sumburgh Head at the far south of Shetland. We could get an electric hookup at the Sumburgh Hotel which is next to the Jarlshof archeological site. Jarlshof was exposed from under sand dunes by a great storm at the end of the 19th century. It contains dwellings from the Bronze Age to the 17th century.

Then we walked along the coast up to the Sumburgh Head visitor centre located in

Lighthouse buildings. Just before we arrived, we looked over a wall and there on the cliffs and the grass just above then were puffins all over the place. They kept us entertained for an hour and became more active, flying to and from there burrows, as time went on.

We had an excellent meal in the hotel that evening.
