Overnight the rain stopped and the wind started to blow and in the morning the clouds cleared to give perfect conditions for our walk along the wild and high cliffs of Esha Ness. On the way we saw the unusual features of the Hole of Scaada where the sea has cut a 100m long subterranean passage to form an inland blow hole and the Grind of Nivar where stormy conditions have thrown up many huge boulders through a gap in the cliffs. On the way back to the van we spent a happy half hour watching the fulmars gracefully gliding in the wind.

Later we had delightful stroll to look at the Dore Holm stack and its huge natural arch.

We returned to Brae to sample delicious local haddock and chips. The night was spent at the town’s marina.
