In misty weather we set off on foot along a single track road from the hamlet of Wester Skeld for our first taste of Shetland coastal walking. Amazingly when we hit the coast at the peninsular of Skelda Ness the mist lifted revealing a coast of steep cliffs and many sea stacks that we were to traverse. There followed three hours of spectacular walking to the crofts at Westerwick where we picked up another lane to walk back inland to the van.
We stayed another night by the Skeld harbour which looked its best in the still sunlit evening.
