We left the hostel in Inverness around 9am, but had to make a detour to a wholesale store so the manager of our next hostel could buy some supplies for us to take with us. After loading up with the supplies, we headed out of Inverness. Having done the hostel manager a favor, she bought Neil a bottle of Scotch (which he swears we are going to share, but it disappeared as soon we reached the hostel!) As a reward for our patience, he took us to a "special" place, the Clootie Well at Munlocy, on the Black Isle. Don't ask me why it's called the Black Isle, as it's not Black and it's not an island. The Clootie Well is a very unusual "attraction." More or less in the middle of nowhere, just off a ... read more

Geo: 57.2725, -5.73323Our B&B in Ft. William was noted for having spectacular views of Ben Nevis, which is the highest mountain on the British Isles. With the low-hanging clouds, however, we had no viewings. Our host showed us some photos, proving that there was in fact a very large mountain right outside our window. This one -- Old Inverlochy -- dates back to the 11th Century, is primarily ruins (understandably), and was only a couple blocks from our B&B. The low clouds, misting rain, neighboring graveyard, and swarms ... read more

But we have learnt on this part of the trip that you have to treasure each moment because they don’t always last. We stayed the night in a delightful B & B with a wonderful hostess. At breakfast we met our fellow guests, two couples from Grenoble in France. It was great to chat and compare travel experiences with fellow travellers. After farewells all round we stopped briefly in the town centre of Ullapool, the scene of last night’s umbrella disaster. This morning the wind was no better but there was no rain, yet. Our Great Grandmother came from this area so we wandered around the local old ... read more

Geo: 57.2722, -5.72765We got to have a sleep in today. Then Jess and I went down to the living room to open our pressies! The tour company had bought us presents. It was fun to sit by the fire and open our presents. I got a pair of warm, woolly socks, chocolate and a t-shirt. We then went for a walk along the beach and came to a ruined castle. After that we went for a drive around the Isle of Skye.... read more
