Do you like the click-bait heading, we did not eat pineapple or Honey today. Heading out from Dunblane, we had three stops for the day (The Pineapple Castle, Falkirk Wheel, and Three Lochs forest drive), but in the end we stopped about 6 or 7 times.
First was to find
The Pineapple, this is a National trust of Scotland asset and is an historic building with walled forest. We thought it was a tourist spot, but No! It is a beautiful building decaying with minimal maintenance. Rose was determined to get a photo of this building which has a Pineapple shaped spire in the middle from both sides. The first was easy and simple walking to the front and shoot, but the back was locked up and she tried many access points, but could not get there with breaking in.
Next we went to
">The Falkirk Wheel which is a most impressive boat lift in a wheel form rather than gates. We were lucky enough to see the wheel rotate and transport a ferry up to the top canal. We also stopped at Loch 15 and checked out the mechanism and workings.
Lastly we intended to drive the Three Loch Forest
drive to see some lochs. However this is where the structured day went rogue, but in a good way.
As we headed up to the drive, we stumbled across
Smiddy Farm Shop , an awesome cafe and food store where picked up some cheese and dinner. The Mac and Cheese was sensational. They also sold Milk from a vending machine, the milk came in 4 flavours and you could buy a bottle or use a cup provided to get your milk.
Then we came to the first Loch the Lake of Menteith, where we found a Fishing Club, where members could rent a boat and go fishing, you could not launch your own boat you had to use their boats. Tomorrow the Fishing club was hosting the National Trout fishing tournament.
After leaving the Loch we continued along the Drive until we actually got to the start of the Three Lochs Forest Drive, it was raining and a gravel road, so we decided not to drive down, but stay on the A road which also passes the same lochs and is sealed. We ended up stopping at each of the lochs and walking the shores and taking photos. One
of the lochs had a massive stately manor that
Tigh Mor Trossachs , part of a timeshare scheme.
We kept saying this was the last stop, but again the day had one more surprise for us, and that was Hamish, Honey and Holly from
The Trossachs Woollen Mill , the home of three beautiful Highland Cows, or Wee Coos as the locals say. These three Coos had more paparazzi than Brad and Angelina. Bus loads of tourists stopped to feed them.
We had a couple of hours rest at the the Cottage before going to Tony and Bid's for after dinner drinks and another wonderful night with the Stanger's. We are sad that we did not get a change to see Paul and Sarah, but have really relished seeing the rest of Midge's siblings and partners as well as his mum. What a great day we had.
