Sun tube
Remember the last picture of the larder... completely dark and sunless... well this is the difference that a shiny tube with a disc of plastic at the top and the bottom makes This week has been exciting and progress has satisfied even Willy's impatience, though we visited different branches of a well known DIY store on three consecutive days, as well as the weekly trip to Screwfix.
We went up to the house at the weekend and took some more beech floorboards. We didn't do much, just swept up a bit, then headed down to Perth to pick some kitchen units. We found a style we both liked and went to talk to a consultant to order it all, but they were fully booked. So I spent the evening with the kicthen catalogue counting all the bits we needed and noting down the item codes, while Willy watched football.
Next day we went to the Livingston branch and ordered all the bits - I surreptitiously checked that she keyed all the item codes correctly, so I hope that the order is Ok and off we went back home to spend quality time together not talking about the house. We failed.
On Monday Willy went back to Tombreck and I went back to the world of Corporate banking. At lunchtime Willy phoned to say we needed to visit that well-known DIY
Is it the moon?
No -its the view inside a sun tube chain, again, in order to purchase floor tiles for the bathroom, which were required immediately if not sooner. So on Monday evening, I took a train to Stirling, met Willy at the station and went to pick floor tiles. It's wonderful what minimal choice and an immediate requirement to purchase can do: we must have been in there for all of 15 minutes!
On Tuesday the pace increased.
The study/bedroom was floored with the last of the larch, which has lasted really well and covered one room more than it was supposed to, with hardly any wastage.
The downstairs bathroom was tiled... well as much as it needs to be for the toilet & sink to be plumbed in.
Tthe lights went on downstairs... apart from 4 wall lights, which will be coming soon.
The spare bedroom walls and ceiling were plastered.
The momentum was sustained on Wednesday and Thursday - the house is now completely plastered. In addition most of the larder has been floored, but working with reclaimed wood is much slower than working with new wood as most of the pieces have to be cleaned of any remnants of adhesive before laying. While Willy, Dean
Larder almost floored
This is the beech flooring we bought in 2007 - it's a nice light colur so it will go in the entrance hall and the utility room too and John completed the upstairs plastering Ewan laid the sun-space tiles.
Willy's Bit
Socially I spent a couple of nights in the pub, on Tuesday I went along to Lawers Hotel to eat with Dean and John only to be joined by Katie, Ian and Rab and Ian's brother Ally. However I was still pretty knackered from getting up at the crack of dawn to drive up to Tombreck on Monday and Tuesday so left early.
Weds, Ewan and I went to Kenmore to watrch Scotland play Iceland (2-1) then stopped off at the Lawers on the way back and met Tober, Sue and Sophie as well as Dean and John and another late night ensued with Sue eventually dragging us out of the hotel just before midnight to drive us home.
Wild Life update a (very) occasional series. This week I have seen a badger, a red squirrel, a hare and a roe deer. The first while driving back from the pub on Tuesday evening plus found a butterfly in the house. It was coming out of its winter hibernation and Andy identified it as a green streaked white (if I remember correctly).
Lights 1
This is the £24.99 light from a well known DIY chain - we have I think 3 of them. This one's at the dining end of the kitchen
