Spent five wonderful days in the city of Glasgow. I went to visit my friend Jacqueline who goes to the uni of North Texas as well. She worked in the study abroad office there and it was scary how much we have in common. I arrived on Wednesday afternoon and it was a beautiful train ride up there. It had been snowing and everything looked picturesque. The green hilly land was covered in snow and there were sheep everywhere. I was going to attempt to get some work done, but I couldn’t stop looking out of the window!
Jac meet me at the train station and we headed to her uni. I really loved Strathaclyde and it was in the middle of the big city. I could see myself studying at her uni. The first night was a relax night. The Thursday night we went out to the union to hear a few live bands play. It was nice to hear live music and the bands were pretty good. Her union was 8 levels and it doesn’t cost students anything to get in! I couldn’t believe that. Keele is a rip off and last night it cost me 4 quid to
get in!
Friday night is the big going out night in Glasgow. During the day I went with Jac to one of her classes to see what a Scottish classroom was like. Her professor talked about Ireland's influence on Scotland and how the potato famine affected Scotland with all the immigrants coming over. That day we visited the Willow Tea Room and it was the best tea I have ever had. We had scones as well and it was nice.
Our Friday night we went and met her friend Dan at the union(he is an interesting guy). While we were chill in there was a guy we named "crazy dancing guy" who was just dancing there. We were laughing so hard at his moves! The pic Dan took wasn’t very brilliant, but it gives u the idea. Some how we made friends with these Scottish people and we ended up with chocolate and bags of crisps. The night becomes a little fuzzy after that. I remember heading back to Dans' and he was not doing too well. While Jac was brining him back to clarity I was watching the Simpson’s with the Scottish guy. It was off to Jacs place
and then chats (that I don’t remember! OH NO!).
We woke up Saturday and were talked into going to a sub crawl for Mad dogs b-day bash. For those of you who don't know what a sub crawl is it is where you stop at all the stops and have a pint of beer (Hey Jim Mace I had a pint of Beer for you at one of the stops!). On one of the stops we ran into this guy named Eddie and he was a local drunk. He started out his story by telling us his wife committed suicide and that he hasn’t had a shag in a year. If you think that is scary he talked about how he was smoking with his daughters and they found his private collection. He told them it is better for him to have this than for them to have a new wife for them to lose their inheritance. It was a very special moment! Jac and I were not really up for it so we had half a pint and rotated at every stop with Iron Brew (a nice soda without alcohol). The Scottish girl Kate made it all the way
around with the boys. Jac and I were exhausted and just chilled in front of the tv that night (tv I forgot what that was like!).
Sunday we went to the modern art museum and it was pretty interesting. It was a very small museum though. After the museum we went to Borders and they had two of my fav authors! I got "catcher in the rye" and a Kurt Vonnegut book! It was nice to have some books to read. That is the one thing I hate about the library at uni is they only have text books! Later that evening we decided to go to a sushi bar. Little did I know that I going to have the joy of food poisoning. The buffet looked so nice with the sushi moving on a belt in front of you. I think we were drooling watching it. I picked out this one item of sushi that was a strange yellow color on a plate of rice (little did I know it was the devil!) and it tasted strange, but I ate it because they charge u if you don’t eat what you pick up. I was sick all night and
got a whole 4 hours of sleep. I was sick all day on Monday and missed out on my trip to Edinburgh. Blast! Took the day easy before I had to catch my train home. I met Jac’s boyfriend Steve and they are really great together. It is strange how he sent an email to the study abroad office and then they started talking thru email. Then they met in person and just hit it off. They are a really cute couple and Steve has a great sense of humor! We hung out at a local pub for awhile. Later, I was hanging out with her flat mate Kate and she has come up with a brilliant idea to put breathalyzers on mobile phones! I agree 100% and it would save you from drunken texts and calls! She text this guy that she would be his bag pipe player if he would be her dog. We had a good laugh about that! We watched this movie with Robin Williams called Toys and it was horrible. All I got from it was at the end there was this elephant flying across the screen. If you want to watch a movie that
doesn’t make sense checks this one out!
That is my excitement in Glasgow! Hope I didn’t bore you too much! There were a few more stories that happened, but I am not sure if I should talk about the strange metro Dan who was obsessed with private parts. If you really want to know the stories ask me!
