This morning we headed up to London via Mottisfont Abbey and Garden … yet another NT property!! We are really giving our reciprocal membership a work out on this trip. The abbey ceased to operate after the dissolution (1536-40) when it was acquired by William Lord Sandys who converted it into a house. The abbey also has an extensive rose garden that it is renowned for. While June is THE month to visit Mottisfont for the roses we suspect that they may have taken a beating with the rain that we had on Thursday night. While the gardens were still quite beautiful and very perfumed, the roses were starting to look a bit tired. Bernie was very impressed with the size of the trout in the stream running through the gardens!!

After our visit to the abbey we continued up the M3 to London. We arrived at Jim and Marilyn’s house in Pinner just before 4.00pm. As we had made arrangements to visit the Stewart Family this evening we headed off on our epic train journey soon after. We travelled in to Baker Street where we changed lines so that we could travel around to Edgware Road station to pick up the line that goes out to Wimbledon. Fortunately it was the rest day/spare day during Wimbledon so we didn’t encounter hoards of fans travelling to or from the tennis!

We enjoyed a very pleasant evening out on the patio with Kerrie, Scott, Christopher and Alice! Of course, with the beautiful weather we were very disappointed that Scott didn’t fire up the barbie!! Only joking, we had a lovely meal that Kerrie had put together in the smallest kitchen in the world. Kerrie and Scott said that they enjoyed having visitors that they are not related to as they have been a bit short on socializing opportunities since they arrived here in London!

With the evening getting away from us we headed back to Wimbledon station to make sure that we didn’t miss the last train back to Pinner. Of course we had to retrace our steps back to Edgware Road and then take a train between Edgware Road and Baker Street where we needed to catch our Metropolitan Line train back to Pinner. I think we rocked up at Barrow Point Avenue just after midnight. It was just as well that we decided to take a set of keys with us to let ourselves back in!!
