Geo: 50.8529, -2.27702Today began with another 7:15 breakfast of champions, though it was graced by a new "dessert" selection of Cocoa Krispies. After a pow-wow over the highway map, we pared down our itinerary for the day and decided to head towards Stonehenge straightaway. The pilgrims and FU fared as well as could be expected, despite the combination sleet/rain that would plague us most of the day.A couple hours later we arrived at Salisbury, choosing to hit the cathedral first in hopes that the rain would let up before we visited Stonehenge. What a sight it was as we approached the city to see the spire towering over everything, like a beacon to wary pilgrims. Salisbury is a town in the southwest of England. It is a quaint town, known for its very old and beautiful church (where the Magna Carta is now housed). Ashley, Jane, Cait, and I walked around the town the first night, saw the church, and met a new friend from Oxford. We had our first pub experience when rain unexpectedly came pouring down and we took refuge in a tiny, hole-in-the-wall pub. As Cait had explained earlier, what distinguishes a pub from a bar is the presence of dogs Cait did not lie, as many dogs roamed around the pub, and one even jump up to the bar in search of drink. Just back from my weekend trip to Stonehenge/Bath/Salisbury. We stayed in a really nice little guesthouse/bed and breakfast in Salisbury. The owner was super nice, the place was way nicer than I expected, and the food was good (though we missed the "breakfast" part of "bed and breakfast" on Sunday. Sleeping is good. Whoops. :p). I definately enjoyed the b&b way more than I would have enjoyed a hostel. It was so nice... kind of like staying in someone's house. And even though the bathroom was shared by a whole floor, I felt sure that it was clean, and the TP was even often folded into a point, which pleased me in an odd way. The real bonus was it was actually a few pounds cheaper than the only hostel that wasn't booked up. We saw ... read more
