Back home at last, how I loved a certain airline whose initials are AA. Didn't know that SIPAH was a terrorist organisation so will have to change this. Role on the next adventure, once all the washing is up to date!!... read more

There are two organisations in the UK that do nothing but work to preserve old homes and other landmarks. If it weren't for the National Trust and English Heritage, a lot of the history of this country would be lost to developers and other people willing to tear down centuries old buildings and replace them with blocks of flats. Run as charities, these two groups have found very clever ways to raise funds. One way that English Heritage does it is to put on outdoor concerts at their venues. Not far from where we live is a beautiful old house called Kenwood. It tends to turn up a lot in films because it still looks so good and the grounds run right into Hampstead Heath, so there are no modern buildings to ruin the shot. We ... read more

Well the time is almost upon us. After almost 6 months of planning and saving, we are finally about to take the final step and leave good old Blighty and travel the pleasant 11,000 miles to New Zealand. It is now only a matter of hours before we are going to be running for our gate in Heathrow's busy Terminal 1, eager to get comfortable on our Air New Zealand flight that will last approximately 27 hours (BLOODY HELL!!). But you will hear all about the flight the next time we update this blog, for now I will just let you know that we had a very uneventful drive up from Devon to my fathers house in Horsham, apart from the airshow and the APC tank thing that convinced Elliott we were at war. The journey ... read more

A fierce wind. Stony beach. Seaweed. It could only be the Great British Seaside. Last week, on a complete whim (well, it was decidedly hot and humid when we set off), we loaded up the car with buckets and spades and drove down to the South Coast - to a place called Climping, just up the road from that infamous British seaside resort Bognor Regis. My Dad had been reminiscing about our childhood trips to this particular beach - yet, try as I might, I could not recall these seaside sojourns. Wondering why I’d blanked outings to Climping from my memory, I agreed that it was time to introduce The Toddler to the delights of the English Riviera. So off we went - my Dad, excited about retracing a once-familiar route (and ready to take on ... read more

so on sunday we left hostel 639, and bussed down to canetbury, about two hours southeast of london. WE LOVE CANTERBURY. it is all winding cobblestone alleys and great old houses and lovely parkland/river and just, beautiful. we stayed in the nicest hostel (http://www.kipps-hostel.com/), our room was like a little loft with lovely views, the staff were fantastic, it was cheap and we had a great bfast and just- if you are ever in canterbury, go there! of course being the massively unorganised shambles we are, we knew that monday night we were staying in portsmouth down on the south coast, but hadnt bothered to work out how we were going to get there....turned out we had to go all the way back to london! that aside we arrived in portsmouth around 7. for those who ... read more

Thursday/Saturday, June 26-28 We are back to the USA! I am writing this final blog on Sunday, June 29, 2008. I will do a brief wrap up of our return trip. We are happy to be home but it seems strange to have no place to go. We had the time of our lives. We have lots of people to thank for their support. I also want to thank all of our blog readers. I saw noticed on the travel blog site that I have had over 1600 hits on the blogs. Thank you for taking the time to follow our journey. Thursday This was our planned return date. Dianne and John were returning too. We all were traveling on a stand-by basis. However, we did not have the same priority. John works for Delta and ... read more

Monday, June 23 Dublin-John/Dianne arrive I am writing this blog late. It is now Thursday, 26 June. This is the longest period that I have gotten behind. But, since Dianne and John arrived in Ireland, we’ve not had a moment to write and upload the blog. Also, if you are keeping up with the blogs, you would know that we should be flying back at this time. Only, we are not on our way. In fact, after a long day at the airport, we have just checked in to a nearby hotel. You will hear a lot about this day and all the others if you just read ahead. June 23 (Dublin) We planned to meet Dianne and John on Monday morning. They were flying directly in from Atlanta. Their flight was to arrive at 9:30am. ... read more

A test entry Need to get this started as it will soon be time to have an adventure. It seems ages since we were in Canada watching polar bears but a tour of America will soon be here. Somehow I am looking forward to it and not all at the same time. To go back to NewYork will be great but strange withought the twin towers. Going back to San Francisco will be a deight as both Pam and I love the city. Watch this space.... read more
