Hi guys, this is my blog, which hopefully I will keep updated on my travels. In order to avoid expensive postage on postcards (as well as writing the same thing several times), my main method of communication will be through this blog, and internet speeds permitting, I will also be able to upload a few photos! Please click "Subscribe" above now, so that I can make sure you are getting these messages! Many Thanks, Alan.... read more

Riiight so Uncle Mike has insisted that I write something before I leave... erm well I'm ready to go basically, got all the stuff together just need to pack it, already know I'm way over the weight limit - but I could have guessed that would have been the case months ago. It's probably because, much to everyones amusement I am taking out enough suncream and shower gel etc to last me probably until I'm in HK - that and a life times supply of my favourite pants are bascially the contents of my backpack. So for any of you who don't know this is my itinerary: Flying into Entebbe, Uganda on Wed 7th Jan and then stay in Kampala with John and Lesley Magnay until Sat 10th Jan when I'll meet people from the charity ... read more

I’ve finally made it all across the world to England! My head’s in a spin; I can’t believe the distance I’ve travelled on this historic journey. I am now in the hands of another truly beautiful soul, Virginia McKenna, who starred as Joy Adamson in the immortal classic “Born Free”. Since the days of making that unforgettable film, Virginia and her late husband Bill Travers established the Born Free Foundation (which you can read more about here: http://www.santersghostwriting.com/xl%20files/XL_Virginia.pdf). Today Virginia spends her time travelling the world (a bit like me) trying to leave the world a little better with each step she takes. I am truly honoured to be visiting this gracious and caring lady, who has been awarded an OBE (Order of the British Empire) for her charity and entertainment contributions to the world. There ... read more

Back home at last, how I loved a certain airline whose initials are AA. Didn't know that SIPAH was a terrorist organisation so will have to change this. Role on the next adventure, once all the washing is up to date!!... read more

Well the time is almost upon us. After almost 6 months of planning and saving, we are finally about to take the final step and leave good old Blighty and travel the pleasant 11,000 miles to New Zealand. It is now only a matter of hours before we are going to be running for our gate in Heathrow's busy Terminal 1, eager to get comfortable on our Air New Zealand flight that will last approximately 27 hours (BLOODY HELL!!). But you will hear all about the flight the next time we update this blog, for now I will just let you know that we had a very uneventful drive up from Devon to my fathers house in Horsham, apart from the airshow and the APC tank thing that convinced Elliott we were at war. The journey ... read more

A test entry Need to get this started as it will soon be time to have an adventure. It seems ages since we were in Canada watching polar bears but a tour of America will soon be here. Somehow I am looking forward to it and not all at the same time. To go back to NewYork will be great but strange withought the twin towers. Going back to San Francisco will be a deight as both Pam and I love the city. Watch this space.... read more

I thought I'd test out the website by sharing the few plans I have. I'm starting in Delhi and then heading down to Kerala, stopping en route, where I will ultimately spend a few weeks at a retreat before heading home from Mumbai. I may go into Nepal from Delhi, but more likely I'll visit the Adaman Islands or Lakshadweep (also Islands) My must sees and dos are the Taj, Varnassi, Rajastan, Amristar, camel safari, Keralan backwaters and hopefully Bengal tiger spotting. See if I manage to do all or any of them!! I plan to add lots more, but I'll just see what happens. This is as much a reminder for me as anything else! Apologies if the notes become tedious but I promised to use it as a way of letting the folks know ... read more
