So one final short blog post, now recovered from the considerable reverse culture shock of returning to placid Sussex after the craziness of India. It's been a fantastic trip over 238 days encompassing 3 continents, 16 countries and 27 flights; many modes of transport including elephants, rickshaws and kayaks; and every type of landscape from arid deserts to mountain glaciers to tropical jungles. One of the memorable highlights has been befriending a diverse mix of fellow travellers from around the world and the hospitable local people everywhere I've visited. Many thanks to everyone who's shared the adventure through reading the posts, enjoying the photos and making comments - wishing you all the best in your future travels and hope the blog has provided you with a few new ideas.... PS please don't hesitate to drop me a ... read more

The plane tickets and the bike are booked and there are 50 days to go. The plan, so far as it goes, is to fly over to Santiago to pick up the bike, a lovely BMW F800GS and explore a bit of the Central Valley, Norte Chico and Norte Grande. With any luck I will see a bit of Chile's famous wine growing region, visit one of the famous observatories (hopefully at night!), explore a bit of the Atacama desert and reach the Bolvian border before heading back south. Once back in Santiago I will head south for Osonoro and swap the bike for a BMWR1200GS. This is the bike a have at home and what I'd prefer for whole trip but none are available until I had south. At Osonoro I'll be joining a small ... read more

The Rest Of The Update Hello again from sunny Horsham!! Well I can truly say I'm settled into life in Sussex. I have moved out of Gemma's house and into a two bed flat. I started looking for somewhere to live and it happened to be only five minutes down the road from where I was staying which was a great thing because I love the area I am living in. I looked at a few others but this one just felt right from the moment I stepped in. It is second floor, I have no one above me and there is only one other flat on this floor so it is very peaceful. I am also on the corner of the building and therefore get lots of sun in most of the flat all ... read more

I'm sure your all waited with baited breath for my last blog entry, I do admire and applaude you if you've managed to stay consious whilst reading my waffle. Last few days in NZ were uneventful, had a good night out in Christchurch to celebrate the end of our travels, lets just say Helen moonwalked on stage (she wasn't invited to!). After that Sunday in Christchurch wasn't so much fun and we sat around the hostel getting very bored. Just flew in this afternoon to London which was very exciting, it smelt like home which was nice. Pretty serious flight but got to spend the day in Auckland with James' family which was nice. Going to go and sleep in my own bed and then get dressed from my wardrobe after brushing my teeth in my ... read more

4 more sleeps! 4 more sleeps! It finally feels like things are coming together and this trip is actually going to happen. Yesterday's Lariam issues are resolved and I no longer feel like a paranoid idiot on speed. Quite scary the effect it had and I'm very glad I was sensible and did a two week trial before I left the country! I'm still not convinced all my stuff is going to fit into my bag - I think there is going to be some very careful packing to be done. And then maybe the good old wear all your clothes for the flight tactic. Anyway, I shall save your blog enthusiasm for when I actually have something interesting to talk about! This time next week for example, when I will be in Argentina. Ex PS ... read more

Hello I'm back! Hi everyone! I was going to leave the blog where it is but somehow I felt you all were needing an update. Well it's been nearly six months since my return, where did that time fly? It took me a while to adjust to normality and settle back into being home but I now feel like things have kind of settled down. My first few weeks were spent catching up with everyone, friends, family and a few trips up and down from Kent to Watford. I went back into work which was lovely to see everyone but quite strange to be there. It has been so nice to see everyone and hear what has happened in everyone else's lives over the time I have been away. I still haven't totally caught up ... read more
