Geo: 52.757, -1.93461We eventually left Rookesbury Park on Sunday, 7th August (Day 108) after spending many days getting to know Elena, our first grandchild. Precious moments, but a wrench having to say goodbye, for now at least. Thankfully the journey back to our home was straightforward and by lunchtime we were beginning the task of emptying our 'holiday home from home', preparing it for going back into storage until the next time. The day ended on a high too as we were reunited with our son and his girlfriend over a dinner of roast beef and all the trimmings prepared by Janet, my sister-in-law. She had obviously remembered our conversations about things we miss whilst away for long periods of time, and that was one of them. A perfect ending to a great trip. The caravan site ... read more

Geo: 52.757, -1.93461After 95 nights away, we walked through the door of home last Friday (14th) after the worst journey during our trip. What would usually take 3 hours towing time, took 4½ hours due to motorway closures and holdups on the M42 and M6 – it's little wonder that European tourists are so reluctant to come over here. Even with driving on the right-hand side, we never encountered such stressful traffic volumes and road works like this.Anyhow, we left Potes in the Picos de Europa on Monday (10th) just after 8am so as to negotiate the long and winding road back to the Autovia that would take us on our final Spanish transfer to Santander. Thankfully there was little traffic at that time of the morning, and well before the tourist coaches bound for the ... read more

Geo: 52.757, -1.93461We have been back home in the Midlands for two weeks now, so thanks to all who were concerned about the lack of blog postings - a mixture of poor internet at our last few sites, busy schedule, catching up with friends and family, and possibly a touch of writers' block! Our last site in France, La Paille Haute at Boiry Notre Dame, is just north of Arras and 78 miles from Calais - a useful stop-over we have used before since it is not too far from the motorway. Despite this, it is quiet and peaceful, with views over the countryside, and a good location for visits to WW1 sights. On our last visit, two years ago, we popped over the border into Belgium and did some of the well-known landmarks such as Tyne ... read more

Geo: 52.7587, -1.93085Despite the wet weather we have spent a great few days over the weekend catching up with family.Friday morning I had a much needed haircut in Wickham, and later we went along to Louise and Olley's for lasagne and more chat.Saturday evening we were joined by Kate, Chris's girlfriend who is now studying at Portsmouth Uni, for a meal at the Kings Head in Wickham Village. This was followed on Sunday by Louise's delicious roast beef and Yorkshire pudding lunch - something I had missed and craved despite some memorable dining.Anyhow, all good things must come to an end so this morning after our 152nd sleep and in our 22nd week on the road we left Rookesbury Park for our final journey back to the Midlands. During our 7,500 miles by car, this turned ... read more
