Well, technically its the largest greenfield music and performing arts festival in the world, but close enough!! Oh, and Dad I promise you will know some of the bands that played! I don't know how you did it, but congratulations Sophie on correctly guessing where I was going! I had to register for tickets and provide a photo which appeared on my ticket by Feb 28th. Then tickets went on sale on the 1st of April, at 9am and I sat at the computer with about 20 different windows open trying to get into the site, whilst mum tried on the phone. The official site had crashed 30 minutes before tickets went on sale. In the end tickets sold out in 1 hour and 45 minutes, and hundreds of thousands of people missed out. The ... read more

So my Glastonbury virginity has finally been taken. After years of wanting to go to this amazing festival, I now feel a more complete person and am already hoping that I am lucky enough to get a ticket again next year... I travelled up with my friend Laura from college and two more recent friends from University, James and Kate. We thought it would be wise to drive through the night, to avoid getting into any traffic to this little Somerset village. The journey also included passing Stone Henge! There were heaps of people there as they were about to celebrate the Summer Solstice... Parking the car at the festival site was fine, but the walk from there to our decided camping area wasn't quite... It took us at least half an hour to walk ... read more

177,500 people, 900 acres, over 350 acts ... I guess I should have known that everything associated with such a massive event was going to be a mission. So here it is ... my Glasto experience!!! Mission 1 - Getting tickets If it was not for Phillips, I would not have got Glasto tickets (champion). First, you had to send in a photo and register for your ticket. Then you had to log on at 9am on a Sunday morning to try and get tickets (with a maximum of 4 per punter). Unluckily, on the 'great ticket buying day', both Adam and I were away. Luckily, Phillips was planning to try for tickets and agreed to try for me too. Unluckily, Phillips was invited to a wedding that weekend. Luckily, he still agreed to try to ... read more

Well what can I say! Hayden, Huia, Mazz, Sheree, Ben,Rachel, Jess, Guesty, Mike Kaz, Nic and I leave Victoria coach sation at around 7 and arrive at Glastonbury 5 hours later. Awesome site over 70,000 tents and 170,000 people crammed in for the music festival to end all. One small problem RAIN!! by Friday morning the mud is ankle deep no matter where you go. We took a tour round the site which took nearly half a day and get our bearings everything from any sort of food or drink you can imagine to casinos 7 stages with bands playing and dance tents galore. Saw some horrific sights hippies running around and people diving through the mud!! STUFF THAT! Went and saw the Who at the pyrimid stage which was awesome. Other bands we saw included ... read more

Well, what can we say. This was an amazing little trip & one we won't forget. London & the greater UK for that matter really fires up for summer music festivals. There seems to be one on every other week & finally it was our turn - Glastonbury ! The lead up was exciting with the full line up only released a week before the main event. The only concern was to be the weather with many photos of a flooded glastonbury doing the rounds. We weren't too keen to see our own tent floating away. Troy & Carrie happened to purchase a camper van for their upcoming euro adventure, so we got refunds on our train tickets & piled into 'bambi' (a suitable name for the cosy little van). The grounds open on a ... read more

Hello again avid readers. I'm happy to report that after four months of USB cable problems, lack of internet, and just plain laziness, I have finally gotten off my ass (well on it really) and uploaded photos. Check out the previous blog entries to see them. In other news, I am doing well. I'm currently living in Glastonbury with Micheal so life is good, if not a little bit boring. I'll put in aroute map because I'm bored and I'm scared to go downstairs where Micheal is in the process of rebuilding our kitchen. Who is Micheal, and why is he tearing apart our kitchen? Well, Micheal, (and that is indeed the proper spelling, inpronouncable I know) is the my new reason for being. A brief meeting the first time I came to Glastonbury led to ... read more

When we last left off, I had just returned to Edinburgh, sleep deprived from the endless dayligh that is the Scottish summer. At long last I am able to find a hostel with proper curtains that are dark and close completely. Unfortunately, it's on the day that I must wake and pack at 5:00 AM. I somehow managed to consolidate all of my variously scattered belongings in the dark and make it to the train station on time. Three trains and a glimpse of ugly Northern England later, I arrive in Salisbury. The town is quaint in a commercialized sort of way though I'll admit that it was rather boring and I was so excited about staying in a hotel with a bathtub that I spent a good deal of time just relaxing. Tuesday night I ... read more

We arrived in London last week to Winnie's brother's house outside of London. Her brother Matt and his wife Deb have a lovely home with 3 little ones; Courtney, Jessica and Louis. I was surprised at all the green space here, I pictured London to be much more crowded and suspect this is the case closer to town center. Our first touristy trip was to Windsor Castle, the oldest and largest occupied castle in the world, home to Her Majesty The Queen. She wasn't in the day were there so was unavailable for comment or photos. I asked one of the gaurds if they have beer and pizza night with Queenie, but he didn't have much to say. The place was like nothing I have ever seen in my life, the artwork was what blew ... read more

In spite of the cold, today was quite an exciting morning as it was the first day we've had some REAL frost! I'm talking white cars and roads... footprints when you walk... crunching and sliding... the works! For me it was an event although I can say that I don't think Emily was quite as excited about it as we grudged through the cold to get to the 24-hour 7 stop since our usual busses weren't running this early. We left for school at 7:15 today because we had to meet at 8:00 to go to Glastonbury and WOOKEY HOLE! If you asked me at that time what those things were I would have said it sounded like a miniature golf course to me... but who knows. The bus ride was a bit long but the ... read more

Well, we've made it back home after an absolutely crazy weekend! We arrived on Thursday afternoon after a full day of travelling on trains and buses, and were greeted with a spectacular sunny afternoon. Some of our friends had arrived the previous day and had set up a great campsite just inside the main gate - we wouldn't know exactly how good the site was until the next afternoon... Audrey and I took a wander around the site to get our bearings, Glastonbury is absolutely massive. We made it about halfway across the site (over to the Jazz stage), where we found the pear cider bus (delicious) and had to turn back to make sure we'd get home before dark. Friday morning was a completely different story. Here's Audrey's thoughts... We had a fabulous time with ... read more
