http://www.heygo.com 5th February- Burford We started our tour by the three arched medieval bridge over the River Windrush Burford was one of the first towns to receive a Market Charter. Cotswold sheep were known as the basis of the English wool trade and were nicknamed ‘Cotswold Lions’ for their shaggy long coats that had a hint of golden tone. The Cotswolds was famous for being one of the largest outputs for wool during Medieval times. We made our way down the High Street with ancient houses, pubs and shops on both sides of the street. As we walked our guide told the story about the hotel frequented by King Charles and Nell Gwynn. Unlike Charles' other mistresses, Nell never received a title herself, but she obtained a title for her son. When Charles Beauclerk was six ... read more

Looks like a perfect day for some hiking through the fields and trails of the Cotswolds. It is such a quiet location we have on the hill above Stroud and serene surroundings with a large grassy area in front of the apartment. Breakfast in the covered area in front of the apartment is a relaxing way to start the day although we are sure Wendy has other ideas with a walk she has got planned for us. Gretchen worked with Wendy at the rest home in Matua. However we have had probably more association with Wendy and her sister Sharon through helping them plan their big overseas holiday a couple of years ago which sparked Wendy’s interest to work in England after she returned from that holiday and got saving seriously for the airfare. Busted! I got caught! I have been using some of these blog entries as journal entries for one of my classes and my professor found out. She left a comment 'hmmm.. this has a different tone to it, are you using this to write to friends back home?' The she went back and read my previous entries on different threads (because it is online) and I thought I was dead for sure. Turns out she 'really enjoys my enthusiastic, colourful, and witty writing style.' Now if only I could apply that to research paper. Oh and good news, our shower drain is finally unclogged! That thing was starting to be a pain in the butt. Every 2 minutes or so, you would have to turn the shower off and wait 5 minutes for all the water ... read more

Elegant Burford, the Gateway to the Cotswolds, contains many beautiful buildings dating back to Tudor and Georgian times. The Burford Parish Church with its slender steeple lies by the River Windrush. The central part of the Tower and west doorway are Norman while the rest of the church dates from around the 15th century. In May 1649 at the end of the English Civil War, 340 of the Levellers were rounded up and imprisoned in Burford Church by Cromwell and his men. Carvings from the incarcerated soldiers and the bullet holes of the three executed ring leaders can still be seen to this day. ... read more
