Geo: 54.2102, -0.291928Saturday was another clear sunny day, about 17 degrees with little wind. We set out from Filey after breakfast, about 9 am. Our destination was Whitby, the home of Captain Cook and birthplace of Bram Stoker amongst others. On the way we stopped at the romantic sounding Robin Hood's Bay which I had read about in our book about amazing places to see in Britain. This is a small seaside town perched on a cliffside overlooking a wide bay which has great tidal variations. When we got there the tide was right out and this exposes vast rocky reefs, ideal for children and adults to fossick on for shells and crabs etc. We parked on the peak of the hill and walked down through the upper village past rows of B&Bs and hotels. At peak ... read more

Geo: 54.2102, -0.291928Friday morning saw us leave Bletchley. We had originally intended to head to Nottingham where I want to visit the National Memorial Arboretum. However, as we are visiting my former student, Helen Fawkner in Leeds on Monday we decided to venture further north. I had not been to the Yorkshire coast so with Simon and Garfunkel running through our heads we set the GPS for Scarborough. We stopped briefly at a roadside services area for another Costa Coffee breakfast and then went back onto the M1. We drove north, along with hundreds of Semi-trailers and other cars. After a couple of hours we wanted to see more of the countryside so left the motorway at Doncaster though we skirted this large town and continued towards Selby. Here we stopped to see Selby Abbey and have ... read more

During the school half-term my wife, son and I stayed a few days in Filey. As ever I took my camera gear with me (Fujifilm S7000) and I was also armed with my new Manfrotto tripod. Later on in the afternoon when the tide was out we walked on to Filey Brigg and I took some photos of the Brigg and the sunsetting behind Filey. The following day there was a sheet of sea fog which partly covered Filey. I took some shots. In Scarborough the fog came up to the harbour wall and as the sun set I got some interesting photos with the Metropole Hotel in the distance. ... read more

Having just renewed my Honda Owners Club (HOC) membership after my first year as a member of the HOC, I decided to go along to the HOC National Rally at Filey, North Yorkshire, on the Friday evening then on the Saturday’s ride out over the North Yorkshire moors. There was just one slight problem with the Saturday ride out for me, I had to go to work Saturday night. Fortunately my job on Saturday evening was shunting trailers in the distribution depot yard and not driving on the road. I’d worked Thursday night into Friday morning so after a good day’s sleep I got the VFR out and met up with Paul and Lisa on their CBR1000 and Martyn on his Pan European ST1100, quite close to where I live on the Dearne Valley Parkway. Our ... read more
