We both finished work a week ago, (lots of lovely presents and cards, thanks to all concerned) all flights have been booked, numerous Lonely planet guides bought, new backpack bought and packed, favourite music loaded onto our MP3 players, and of course loads of 'goodbye' meals with friends and family.
Then the mundane things: house cleaned, fridge almost empty, freezer defrosted, laundry basket empty, ironing done!
Why? Because we are off on a four month trip to S.E.Asia!
When Stan and I first met many years ago in Spain, we talked about doing some serious travelling. Well it never really happened for one reason or another until recently when, for the last three years, we dabbled our feet, so to speak, and spent the six week long school summer breaks travelling. This time, however it's going to be different, instead of being confined to school holidays we've packed our jobs in and plan to spend four months travelling around S.E.Asia. Hopefully the experience we've gained so far will help us through the trickier moments that are bound to crop up!
A bit drastic you may be thinking but after a year of some ups but more very big downs,
even times when we thought we'd have to put all thoughts of travel out of our minds, we decided the time was right to 'go for it' as they say, while we still can.
On Tuesday We fly to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia and will spend a couple of days there before flying to Laos where we intend to spend two weeks exploring the Mekong Delta and the beautiful surrounding mountainous countryside; and also taking in a few temples in Luang Prabang.
From there we will take the train to Bangkok before flying to Hanoi, Vietnam for two weeks. The main destination there will be the famous Halong Bay. We've seen many photographs and it looks a magical place. Now we want to experience it for ourselves.
From Hanoi we will fly back to Bangkok and spend the whole of December visiting some of Thailand's Beautiful islands, we have been to quite a few already but there are still many more to explore and of course, we want to re-visit some of our favourite ones! We'll probably be on Ko Lipe for Christmas but as our intention is to be 'free as a bird' nothing's for sure!
Presents and cards for Stan
Thanks to staff at Abraham Moss High School After spending New Year back in Kuala Lumpur we will then fly to Sulawesi in Indonesia for some serious exploration. Our intention is to get to the Banda Islands but they are quite remote and public transport in Indonesia is renowned for being unreliable. If we do make it, it should be worth it as it is said to be like going back in time, little tourism, pristine, quiet beaches and equally pristine coral and undersea life. We shall see!! Keeping our fingers crossed there are no more natural disaster or any disasters for that matter!
Well that's it for now, more news from our first destination, until then ---in the meantime, don’t work too hard!

Can I come too?
Maybe in a few months time though! Good luck and keep those blogs coming to give us inspiration until we become free spirits too! xxx
