I am so lucky and feel very privledged because I have been within 100 metres of two of the greatest men of our time within 9 months. Last year in Auckland I sat in awe of the Dalai Lama and last week I went to Hyde Park to celebrate the 90th birthday of the Inspirational Nelson Mandala. Wow. To celebrate his bday and comemorate nearly 20 years since he was released they held a concert in London and Midiba was there and on stage. The lineup included Queen, Amy Winehouse, Razorlight, Eddy Grant, Annie Lennox, Joan Baez, Leona Lewis the sugarbabes and many many african musicans. The 46664 rocked, I will never forget the experience and I have the T Shirt. It has been a mixed month. Our trip to Swansea has been called off this ... read more

Tuesday 19 Feb 2008 We left Teddington excitedly at 7am to get to Victoria Coach station for our 9:30 coach to Portsmouth. We finally met Lundi and Nikki at Victoria and our journey began. After our 2 hour coach trip we were so excited to get to the ferry terminal, only to be told it was the terminal to Spain and France and we were the only people the bus had stopped for! oops:):) The very kind bus driver put all our things back onto the coach before taking us to the next terminal. Here we got 2 for 1 ferry tickets to Ryde - Ilse of Wight! As we got to Ryde Ferry Terminal the one and only train was leaving so we walked across the second longest pier in england (stopping and taking photos ... read more

This time tomorrow I'll be almost on the flight to Mumbai. Weird thought. Just sorting last minute stuff at the mo and drinking a G&T. Have had a hectic few days here on the island but great to spend time with family and friends before the off. Am feeling relatively calm but legs keep jigging every now and then in excited anticipation. Wahey! I'm going.............. read more

The Isle of Wight Festival is a three day camping festival located funnily enough in the Isle of Wight. This was my first trip to IoW and we picked the highlight of the summer weather to spend it there. It was a tube / train / hovercraft / bus trip there which took about 3hours all up from home to campsite. The hovercraft was great. I'd never been on one before and it's quite freaky. It's not really that noisy and it was a smooth trip, right from the sandy shores of Portsmouth to Ryde on Isle of Wight. Have to admit though, I spent the whole trip humming 'I've got a ticket to Ryde' It was a fairly painless trip even though we were lugging a fair amount of luggage. There were 3 of us: ... read more

We took a coach out today to Osborne House, Queen Victoria’s “summer cottage” on the Isle of Wight, though of course the house itself is as big as Blenheim Palace. We explored the grounds a bit first. Out back stands a Swiss cottage the size of a small barn, which was used by the children to learn domestic skills. Even though they would never be normal children, Prince Albert wanted all of his children to understand how a normal English household was run, including cooking and gardening. The children also had their own museum and a field set up with barracks and trenches for war games—the ultimate play ground. The grounds are a lot more simple than Blenheim Palace. It feels a lot more liveable here. Inside Osborne House was a study in contrasts. On the ... read more

Church in Freeport on the Isle of Wight was wonderful—it was great to be in an actual ward instead of a branch. I didn’t feel like quite as much of an invader here since they have enough members to outnumber us a few times. Sacrament meeting is interesting: the first talk is a report on one of the ward member’s visit to Salt Lake to meet President Hinckley because her husband was in the Hyde Park ward during President Hinckley’s mission. It was interesting to hear an outsider’s perspective on my home town—kind of a reverse of what I’ve been feeling traveling among the British. The meeting continues with an emphasis on the importance of prophets, appropriate since in two weeks there’s going to be a regional conference for all England where he and Elder Eyring ... read more

It's Wednesday March 14, 2007 and our trip began exactly 2 weeks ago today. It feels like more than 2 weeks though, but we're finally beginning to really get into the swing of things. We arrived on the Isle of Wight to the south of England last Friday and we have been staying with my Auntie Diane and Uncle Charlie in Freshwater. I love the island, it's so pretty. Friday night was pretty uneventful, did some laundry and relaxed as it was Diane and Charlie's anniversary so they were out. Saturday we spent the day in Newport, showed Stef one of my favorite stores, Matalan, which is all clothing but really really good prices. Sunday we went for lunch at the golf club and walked from the club down into Freshwater which was really pretty. ... read more

Haven't done a travelblog for ages so a weekend down to the Isle of Wight will do for my next entry! The day we were due to leave started off a bit ominously. Mark, our friend we were travelling with, had arranged the caravan and ferry for the weekend. After Denise had gone off to pick up Mark I suddenly remembered I had forgotten to double check with the travel agent if we needed separate tickets for the ferry (all we had was confirmation in a letter). With some trepidation I phoned the agent who, to my horror, confirmed we did need tickets and they were sitting in her office in the Elephant and Castle (a journey of about an hour in the opposite direction)! Thinking quickly I put on a mock-angry tone and said this ... read more

Well, it was the weekend again...obviously, (even over there I hear) so it was time for us to hit the road and do some exploring once again. The weekend started with a sigh of relief that the anniversary of the bombings had finally passed and we could now hopefully ease up on the paranoia. Not sure if you had much coverage of it at home, but here, we were faced with front page articles everyday for the past week, a new video message was released the night before from al quada and, memorial services were to take place all day long in various locations around the city, so we had no chance of getting it out of our minds. I decided that I'd get off my tube a stop early, as I normally change at kings ... read more

I have never been to anything like the Isle of White Festival!!!! That is a true statement. From the moment we arrived on Thursday morning the action never stoped. We had the perfect weekend of Blue sky's, music and fun. I went down with two of my flat mates and some of their friends from Slough. The head line acts on friday night where Placibo and Prodigy, Saturday night was Foo fighters and Sunday went off with Richard Ashcroft then Coldplay. But all the inbetween bands where great to. There where big dance tent's to and heaps of rides to go on. It was just fantastic. I'm sorry I only managed to get four pictures attached before my camera ran out of battery. I'll get some more on tomorrow, but hpefully they give you a little ... read more
