Having spent our entire journey up to this point in the larger and more famous cities in Europe, you might think that going to Winchester would be lacking in something for our grand finale. There's no public transit, no tourist spectacles, no broadway shows and no malls. However, replace all that with cozy pubs, christmas markets, beautiful churches, and people who have been waiting two years to see you again. Winchester has been, to me, a home away from home. It's not often you can walk down a street two years later and still see people you recognize, and who, in turn, recognize you. It's as close to perfect as I've found in the world, and after traveling to Berlin, London, Barcelona and everywhere else, Winchester was the right place to cap off such an amazing ... read more

Fri 21st Jan Cold night, left about 9am and said goodbye to “Henry the 7th”, the gateman - nice old soul who insisted on practicing his English on us. Blew Colleen a kiss goodbye, at least I think it was for Colleen. Soon after we left we spotted a scattering of snow on the side of the road! Didn’t see any more after that. Motored on through Loret De Mar and Tossa De Mar and then on towards Montpellier. Near Fronignan we saw the area where they cultivate and farm oysters and muscles, which they grow on ropes hanging down into the water. There are maybe 200 acres of wires strung between poles which hold the ropes. Amazing sight. Went into Fronignan to look for a stopping point but they had put up height restrictions on ... read more

Getting Ready Just a quick note to you to check if you want to receive these short reports. If you want us to no longer send them then let us know and we can delete you from the circulation list. No problem. For those staying with us we are now preparing the van for another trip south to some sunshine. We have recovered from Xmas and New Year (Both a first time for Thomas and Mia, from respectively Anne and Graham and Thomas and Caroline). And then we have had the marmalade making machine in the kitchen producing 85lbs in the last two weeks. But then we are free, apart from the Saints playing Notts County on Saturday, to start our journey. First we are calling on Lesley's brother's family in Folkestone before crossing on Wednesday. ... read more

Well, this is it! We are here in Southampton and the dock is in sight. We will be boarding Arcadia in the morning and sail away later in the day. We were too scared to leave anything in the car & we looked a right sight lugging in 3 huge suitcases, two suitbags and a very obvious long white wedding dress bag :-) I wouln't give a hoot if the hire car got stolen, but if it had the wedding dress in it that may have been a bit of an issue - bit of "you cannot be too careful" Anyway just wanted to set this up ready and see how I can send links to all of you who would like to keep an eye on our progress... Hope it proves to be a bit ... read more

Arrived in Southampton after ferry overnight from Caens - all went well except we had an early morning call at 5.30am. Hotel in Southampton very kindly gave us our room at 7.30am this morning so day seems to have gone on forever. Have re-packed yet again to try and ditch some stuff - and now some of its going back to Toulouse in the car!!! Am going to try and attach photos this time. One is of Scott getting what he likes best (well almost) before he has to dine properly. Now in room with a bottle of screw top red from M&S and wondering if I have the energy to go down and mix with rather a lot of elderly folk waiting to go on a cruise!!!!! Am sure it wont be the same one ... read more

Well it's exactly one week until the off. Packing has not quite started, being the usual organised selves, but the excitement definitely has! Currently Britain is experiencing some of the worst weather conditions it's had in many years, with many airports suffering. All i gotta say is that Heathrow better be working next Christmas Eve night, cause if it's not me and Matty are swimming to first stop Singapore!! Spending the last few days at home with the kitten, Fizzy, who is purringly oblivious at the moment, asleep on the sofa next to me, that he will have to endure a 4 hour journey to Pembrokeshire, Wales next week to spend Christmas as my replacement with the folks and sister. Still four more days of work to go....incredibly hectic trying to organise life inside and outside ... read more
