Today was a day trip to Portsmouth, located in south England. The main attractions in Portsmouth include the historic naval dockyard, and the Spinnaker Tower, which is a huge landmark offering a fantastic view. The naval dockyard was worth a visit if you are interested in anything navy or history. There were naval displays from past and present. The site offered access to two ships, as well as three musems. ... read more

This is a pre-holiday warm-up blog entry - just testing the waters It's the final weekend before we leave for New York City on Tuesday morning..... we're both in headless chicken mode, but things are starting to come together - at last!! The forecast looks ok for our first couple of days in the US but then it said we may get "sprinkles" on Thursday - which looked like showers to me, but then i realised we may have to learn a whole new language to get by in America! Anyway, enough ramblings - things to do, cases to pack and unpack and pack again..... Bye for now, and we'll give you an update once the adventure begins!! ... read more

Just a quick note to report a weird phenomena. I woke this morning to find TC the bear has mysteriously shrunk. I left him on the kitchen table after a mincing session and bid him goodnight and when I woke this morning he was bearly half the size but otherwise in good health. I don't suppose I'll ever get to the bottom of it and on the plus side he is easier to fit in my rucksack. June x... read more

Hello to all our faithful readers. As you may have guessed the blog has gone haywire. We have tried our best to retrieve everything that we lost but as we are not techno whizzkids the going has been tough. If there are any computer anorachs out there that can help we'd be very grateful. Hopefully things should be Ok from now on and we'll give you an update of our last stretch in the UK. We made our way around the Wash and true to its name it was awash. Sorry Lincolnshire and the fens we weren't too impressed, when you've seen one cabbage field and a pair of ditches and dykes (the grassy and watery variety) you've seen them all. Having packed my panniers about 10 times, changed my boxer shorts to jock straps, reduced my rations to beer and chocolate and done a quick limbering up exercise I finally set off today from sunny Southsea in Portsmouth for the beginning of my journey around Britain and Ireland. Accompanying me for the very first day was my long time friend Paul, who would cycle with me to Brockenhurst in the New Forest. What preparations had I done for this ride? Well the previous 4 months had been spent travelling from Dover to Beijing along the southern silk route in an overland truck drinking copious amounts of beer and vodka, dealing with a parasite called Trumpton-Farquar and reading books throughout the day, so in terms of cycle fitness I would say that my muscles were well relaxed! ... read more

Sehr lec... read more
