We stumbled onto the building when we went out for pizza after we got back to the Airbnb. They opened in 1892 and have been in continuous operation. Now it is the Camberwell Leisure Centre that includes an exercise studio, swimming pool and gym.

There were several of these descriptions of how the cassions worked. Construction began in 1894. We were amazed at the engineering technology.

I had heard about this sort of thing. A team at the bottom makes the rivets and heats them, then throws the rivets up to the team that catches, inserts and pounds the rivets home. Wonder how often they missed?

The path from the second tower to the lower workings were marked by this sort of circle with a worker's name, date and job. Until I read the previous photo caption, I had missed what a holder up actually was. Even though we were on a river I was pretty sure he wasn't a bank robber.
