Officially Happy Easter to everyone back home! Here's hoping that everyone had a wonderful day!
Across the waters in London, Easter was a good day. It started out with the Cadbury egg waking up with kids. It appears that the Easter Bunny found its way to Kristen and Ryan... even way over here in London. I tried to convince the Bunny to hide the eggs in the hotel room, but it was hard to gauge what was "clean" and what wasn't. Nevertheless, Kristen and Ryan each got a Cadbury Caramel Egg to start of their Easter morning.
We had breakfast downstairs in our hotel. They had a continental breakfast buffet for 14 pounds and if you wanted to add eggs, you needed to add an additional 4 pounds. Very expensive, but we weren't sure what restaurants were open on Easter, so we decided to eat there anyways.... but order a la cart. You would've thought that we were doing something very foreign to everyone. They couldn't understand why we wouldn't want to buffet and then they had to figure out how to put in an a la cart order. They kept pushing the buffet. We kept insisting that we
didn't eat that much for breakfast, so it wouldn't be worth it for us to eat us.... At the end... Kristen got the kids buffet price of 7 pounds and Ryan got to eat free. Poysee and Rob had toast and eggs, Betsy had waffles with an M in the middle and I had Eggs Benedict. All very good. The most expensive breakfast we've had all week, but good enough!
After breakfast, we took the tube to Kew Gardens.... just outside the City of Richmond. It was about a 45 minute tube ride and we had to change 3 times, but we finally managed to get there... along with everyone else. There was a queue for the Kew! hee hee.... a little humor here! Anyways... Kew was 121 hectares of botanical wonder. They had trees, they had flowers, they had plants, they had a pagoda and a canopy walk within the trees. The canopy walk took you roughly 60 feet above ground and allowed you to see within the trees. It was pretty cool. The lift was broken, so once again we climbed the steps... 119 of them. Ryan was pretty happy. I was pretty tired. We'll have to
share pictures.. although it probably wouldn't do it justice.
After the canopy walk, we walked to the Badger Sett. Badger setts in reality were a labyrinth of tunnels that the badgers created and travels to the fields through their tunnels to search for food in the wild. Kew created a minor Sett for the kids to run around it. Ryan and Kristen enjoyed it. As did Rob and myself. It was pretty fun to go crawling in the tunnels.
We got back to the Swiss Cottage area and had dinner at Pasticcio. Had italian. It was open and the food was fairly decent. Also tried toffee bread pudding. Very good, but VERY SWEET as well. Almost too sweet and that says a lot coming from me.
All in all... an excellent week. We had great weather and good company. The best of both worlds.... tomorrow, we head back to reality. Uncle James... don't forget to pick us up. BA flight number is BA0217 and we are expected to land around 1:40. See everyone soon!
Cheers!
